Standish casino opens with little fanfare, but plenty of gamblers

It opened with little fanfare: no billboards, no advertisements, not even an announcement on the Web site. via Bay City Times

I was born and raised in Standish, I just moved to the west side of the state in 2005. I was online tonight and saw that the casino opened. I had to laugh when I read the article, it stated that "hundreds say they're eager to see the casino benefit rural Arenac County's economy, schools and general appeal." It seems to me that the same was said when the maximum security prison was built. What happened there? The prison was supposed to bring so much money to the county. The only thing that was new were a couple fast food places. I hope that this does bring money to Arenac County, it needs it. However, Arenac County is far from a wealthy community, I hope this casino does not take too much from the little people already have.

So, the Indians are finally getting their revenge! I hope that this doesn't hurt the local people!

I lived in Arenac county for a while and believe me they are not hurting for money. Has anyone checked out the new high school, the pool room and the field house. I loved sending my children to school there. I could say more but I better not.
