A new 4-lane highway to the region would be a welcome sight. A new program should be designed and implemented along with the new highway, which is to train drivers of residents living along the corridor on safe exiting and entry of the 4-lane road, especially those daring drivers who take chances inconsiderate of the speed of the traffic. Bad, ignorant and inattentative drivers cause majority of accidents involving semitractor trailer trucks. Prohibition of cell phone use on the new road should be implemented as well.

It's not cell phones that are causing all these accidents. It is drunk drivers! Let's be honest.

He said that construction will continue untill funds run out. And he alos said that the estimated cost is far more then the budget that they are working with. What does this mean? That they will get as far as they can go with the money they have and then they will just stop wherever they may be? This does not make any sence to me. Obvisly the road needs to be fixed so there must be anyone way to bring some more funding into the project!

The highway is an everlasting road that is on the way to getting Navajo business done Top priority for open mindedness about all kinds of funding support State government is that top priority Always stick with the state government We become well developed with it We have a chance to educate ourselves with political science studies, sociology, and psychology and get a job in one of the three branches of government of the Navajo Indian Tribe, with the US 491 That is the business we will always need thank you

The cost for the project was going up when talks between NMDOT and the tribe stalled for the past few years. Not sure if their agreement includes the road north of Shiprock to the CO state-line which is also another GRIP project.

Highway 491 should be one of the first roads in the state to be repaired,it is in such poor condition that traveling on it is a challenge. Gov Richardson does not travel on it daily or he would have fixed it in his first day in office. There is no doubt about it being a very expensive project but look at all the cars and trucks that traffic the highway daily. If it is fixed and prevents even 1 tragic accident it is well worth it
Ben Shelley is a good man ,i think he puts the navajo nations needs as a conviction to his office.I hope he is the next prez.
