Because of their lack of foresight and against the advise of the President and the people, the Navajo Council squandered the Navajo Peoples' emergency saving acccount irresponsibly over the years. The emergency accounts was intended for such hard times as what is happening now. The council are so fiscally irresponsible by funding their own lavish trips to Vegas and other unnecessary trips. The council committee continue to meet every day with no positive results from out of those meetings. They are just continuing the committee meetings so they can claim expense and generate income from the tribe. Now is the time to shrink the Council from 88 to 24 and some organziation or individual should take on that task before it is too late. The council will surely bankrupt the tribal treasury.

It's been over a decade since the NM state funded money has been idle for Chapter projects, the usual pointing of finger between the Navajo Nation and Chapters not using their funds remains to this day. The Chapter Coordinators/Managers are told there will be cuts in their projects if there is nothing done, well, we tried to do something, it's the same old shenanigan year after year. Dirty politics gets in the way when you have ego minded supervisors. Now the show goes back to the Navajo Nation Council, we'll see what happens.

the nnc is too high and mighty: look at their personalities.do a background check and lol ! the delegates lack the educ., the knowledge , and the experience . then john doe begay every 4 years supports and votes fore the same old baggage.the only delegate on the council i feel has the necessary guts is former sen./delegate tsosie. maybe the qualifications should require the navajo nation bar.
otherwise any ole john will run for office and win to wither away on stipends and meetings.we do not need all the standing committees of the council . for example look at the education committee.there is no oversight. the ec micromanage the (blank) out of the educated dept of dine education officals.besides that the state of nmex should aborb all the bureau schools and let the public schools run the show. just think of the harm being imposed by these counsel delegates and they do not even have the background checks performed on them... imagine what would come back on delegates leonard anthony and willie tracy? lol ! the other delegates are no different and need to be challenged.. indian tribal council all over the usa are dragging their tribal members down the drain. so do your best to vote out those do-gooders two years from now!!!!

Its a rainy day, folks! Time to break open the Permanent Trust Fund ($1B+). In the meantime, enact personal income taxes for anyone drawing a paycheck on the Rez, collect property taxes (john ranchers are making 100's thou undeclared income while paying pennies for land use), collect MVD taxes, legalize and tax alcohol, issue your own liquor licenses, open up rez land for development especially the mountain areas. There are billions to be made here! Hahoo!

What can anyone say anything good of the Navajo Nation politico except themselves. The $125m in 2003 for 2004 491 highway construct would have been almost completed, but the NN Dept of Justice and Resource Committee placed a hold. George Arthur, long time crony of NN Political Structure, was behind this delay working with DOJ John Rutherford to ensure they have power over the state on their turf. SAD! The NN Council themselves slowed the capital outlay projects for all the millions the chapters received. They are their own demise. I don't blame the executive branch of NM cutting away projects that had not moved because of the NN council pride that they successfully held back those needed state funds (Not only with capital expenditures, but operational expenses as well).

The Navajos and Apaches used to circle wagon trains to rob and plunder. Maybe the use of ATVs and dirt bikes could be used to make up for the financial shortfall that is looming around the pocketbook horizon.

There are no funding shortfalls in the NN Council's stipend and travel accounts. Many delegates are planning to attend the Obama Inauguration this month in Washington,D.C. How much is that going to cost? This is Navajo monies going down the drain!!

Navagansta, I agree with you on all points except for the first of breaking open the permanent trust. Lets leave that alone until our educated youth come back with the good ideas that will save us. I wouldnt want the fund to pay for these idiots to go to Washiindoon and have their Vegas meetings. Cut them down to 12 not 24!

" Council delegates representing the 54 chapters in the New Mexico portion of the Navajo Nation are meeting in the tribe's Window Rock, Ariz., capital today to develop a prioritized needs list and brainstorm ideas on securing state funding."

What, all this rests on the shoulder's of lazy, incompetent council delegates? They're probably the reason why the navajo nation is in this crisis.
