Thank you so much for such a lovely remembrance of Jim Houston. He was a hero to me as well. I was fortunate to get to meet him and Jeanne while writing a profile of him for Bookshop Santa Cruz's newsletter several years ago and would run into him around town once in awhile. I always found myself stammering because of the brilliance and beauty of his writing, but he always put me at ease because he was truly a gracious man. He should take his place with other great California writers, such as Steinbeck, now.
