These day’s, when you are thinking about your property taxes and your mortgage payment are you wonder if you can afford them. Most jobs are either laying you off, cutting your pay or you are just not getting a pay raise at all. That is not what is happening in the Village of Harriman. It must be great to be a Harriman Police Officer and or the Harriman Police Chief. Below you will see the Village of Harriman payroll for 2009, 2010 and 2011 that was reported to New York State. This does not include their health benefits, comp-time, paid sick time, vac. time and pension pay that the village pays not the employee. Time suspended for some Officer for committing different crimes like Felonies and Misdemeanors that if were us we would have been arrested not sent to the State of Fla. to dry out / paid vacation. The crimes that I am talking about were not minor ones. One Officer was involved in a accident on Rte 208 in the Town of blooming Grove where he rolled his vehicle over almost killing his passenger, was first arrested by the Town of Blooming Grove Police Department for DWI Taken to Arden Hill Hospital. Then after a few calls to the now chief were made he was released into his custody and no arrest was made. This officer also on another time while intoxicated calls dialed to 911 on several along with his girlfriend causing not just one police agency to respond to their home but numerous police agencies, this happen several times in one day to fine out that they were just pranking the police department “ what an officer”. By the way no one was arrested for any crimes sent to detox in the State of Florida great vacation paid by the tax payers. Another officer was involver in a hit in run accident also in the Town of Blooming grove where he left a local bar intoxicated hit several vehicles and left the scene. Guess what happen to him. Sent to Florida! I can go on for ever but that will be in the next paper What I am getting at is that the Village of Harriman needs to disband their Police Department that is costing the TAX PAYERS over 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS a year. Using the New York State Police would cost the TAX PAYERS nothing, because you already paying for the New York State Police in your taxes. The Town of Woodbury section of Harriman would be covered by the Town of Woodbury Police Department. I believe already paid in your tax bill. For the small section that is in the Town of Monroe they would rely on the New York. These day's State Police for coverage. If the Village wanted for a small cost the Village could hire the Village of Monroe a more professional Police Department that has more structure. Again the Village of Monroe could be hired at a fraction of a cost. We need to act now to many TAX PAYERS losing their jobs, home, over not being able to pay their taxes. It will only take a vote to save millions of tax payers dollars. The time is now

It must be nice to be a harriman police officer do nothing and make more then a New York City Police Officer. What is the Village board thinking about. Plus I agree Monroe is a more professional department. No surprise about the cover ups in the Harriman Police Departments the Chief was fired from the Village of Greenwood Like for shooting another Policer years ago. I agree Its time to disband the Village of Harriman Police Department and let the Village of Monroe take over.

I agree! I think that the Harriman Police should be disbanded, you only have a six person police department and look what they are making. You should down ground them to part timers and will save a lot of taxes and have the Village of Monroe Police take over an/or the New York State Police. For the corruption in the department you would not have that if you had a real POLICE DEPARTMENT not a Mayberry Police Department that is out of control with a drink and a loud mouth running the department just look at his record Greenwood Lake ( fired ) Shoot another officer, Went missing until part time Blooming grove ? Chester Village ? Chester Town ? and check his record with Harriman say no more. Maybe thats why his department is out of control and needs to be disbanded

A young wife and mother was rushed to OCMC on Thursday with blunt force trauma to the head, she lapsed into a coma and died on Sunday. Her husband had recently been released from OCJ for spousal abuse, and yet, as far as I know, no charges have been brought.
WTF is wrong with the Harriman Police Department, and doesn't the hospital have to report this type of injury?
I am livid that I haven't read a single thing about this in the paper. She will be creamated today, and still nothing about her tragic death.

Ray Culver if you think back to the late 70's early 80's he shot another officer inside of the police department. I believe he shot him with a 357 and the round went through both legs. A temper then a temper still never changes just gets older

It only take a someone to walk around the Village of Harriman with a petition and the village board has to act on it. 1, if they vote to dissolve the Police Department they have to bring it to a public vote at the next election, 2 they can down grade thier Police department to part time and have they Village of Monroe take over like they did in the late 80's when their police department was out of control they can do this with a board action thats yours best bet.
You will bring in a more professional Police Department, less taxes, better trained, and more services for your tax dollars.
I Bet If you are drunk and get into a accident, or if you and your girlfriend are drunk and make prank calls to 911 no other police department is going to cover this up. So this is the point why we need Monroe Police to over see Harriman Police Department.

wtf !! Monroe Police Department is your best choice. Nothing personal Ray, but The Village of Harriman Police Chief has no clue on how to ran a Police Department ! The now Harriman Chief wasn't a good Patrol Officer, shot off his mouth a lot about Village business/ Police Department information out side of the Police Department Head Quarters about Police information, was very lazy when it was time to do his job, and spending to much time at the Captain's Table again shooting off his mouth about Village business/ Police Department information what type of chief is this for the Village of Harriman.
it's time to disband the Harriman Police Department, Save taxes and have a more professional Police Department take over.

As is true of all levels of governance or society as administered, the organized constabulary of any community is a reflection of its constituency; its social mores, customs and habits. Those with issue need only place a call to the the NY State Attorney General's office. Barring that, contact the A.C.L.U, news media, and/or any fraternal, veterans', or professional organization with which you are affiliated. While that act in of itself might night necessarily remedy, nor significantly ameliorate, any situation or concern it will at least have the effect of getting matters on the record. After that, the onus will be on the citizenry to act and move forward -- or get off the soapbox and let the next person have their say.(About what; it will hardly even matter.)

Politician are just that: They are politically motivated and seldom will offer or do more then what they have come to believe is expected of them, or that which they are comfortable with delivering on.(Ask yourself: if the service staff at your favorite restaurant did not have to angle for a tip, just how often do you think they would visit your table to top-off your coffee?)

While I do not espouse notions that people "get the government they deserve" [nee police department]-- no one "deserves" a beating just because they can't or are unwilling to defend themselves -- I do believe in collective responsibility. Acquiescing to the whims of those in positions of power or authority only serves to foment or maintain a condition without the necessary checks-and-balances these institutions require.

There are altogether too many individuals with the power and authority to affect peoples lives -- indeed even end them -- performing their duties with inadequate training or leadership or, in the worse instances, usurping authority from those better suited.(I give you local business interests, and familial political dynasties used to holding sway over "newcomers".)

Posts such as these, to the inclusion of my own, generally have little if any effect on those to whom they are directed. They are viewed, if read at all, as little more then rambling commentary of the sort historically met at pubs and saloons.(And admittedly, about as coherent.) However, it is well worth noting by that same construct people have been moved from there to taking it to the street -- or Boston harbor.

Nice to know that the Village has changed its name to "ALEXIS".

Isn't anybody embarrassed by this defacement?
I've seen police cars from 5 different departments in the bridge area... and no one knows who spent at least a half hour climbing and painting a bridge on a main highway...

I worked in Bed Stuy for many years. this "artist" would still be recuperating from broken wrists.
