My name is Tyquaun Porter, what i want to know is what will the new mayor do to get the corruption out of Tuskegee. I am from Notasulga, metro tuskegee, but i currently live in opelika, al. my grand mother used to teach on benson ave. in tuskegee, five out of her six kids attended tuskegee schools. she tells me that tuskegee used to be the place to be, she said downtown was spectacular, roads were better, crime was lower, and tuskegee had one of the best hospitals around, what has happened to tuskegee, sometimes i hate going because it just looks so sad. i don't see what my grandmother saw 10-20-30 years ago. the holiday inn and resataraunt just sits vacant. and i'm sorry to say, but i blame it all on johnny ford, im my opinion, he used city money for his self ,and served a whopping seven terms, i think he's the reason tuskegee is suffering now. and i hope that omar neal makes an improvement.(drastically)

I am from Tuskegee. I know Mr. Porter how your grandmother remembers Tuskegee because I grew up in that era. Tuskegee at one time was the best of the best. Still there is so much hx. in Tuskegee. Tuskegee is on the right tract by getting a city manager and a new mayor. Now it needs to do something about the crime in Tuskegee, health care 24hr care and tourism is a great idea with the cradle of history that exudes from Tuskegee. As always, a mayor nor city manager can not do it alone. The people of macon county must rally around them an do their part. I still believe in Tuskegee and that's why in the next 2 years I will be back. You can count on me to do my part.

Mr. Porter,

I must agree with Ms. Willis on this. I work for The Tuskegee news and spend much of my time ankle-deep in local efforts to restore Tuskegee to the prestigious status it held more than 50 years ago. This community is suffering from 30+ years of complete depression - both mental and fiscal.

Many people are struggling to bring the collective mindset out of the dumpster, but are constantly met by a wall of apathy. People in this city need to buy into the true meaning of community before those on the outside will see any difference.

For those of us here in town, mammoth changes take place all the time. But a $7 million annual budget for a city with as many employees as Tuskegee has doesn't afford anyone - even a standout new mayor - the opportunity to do much.
