A testament to "our" heritage and desire to improve and endure. The very last line in this feature says it all.. I am, at this moment, extremely proud of the students and teachers at Ulysses Byas Elementary School..

A true fluff piece. There will be Newport butts and fast-food wrappers at the base of the sign that will bear the name of Mr. Byas. I admire that gentleman, because he is an example of the old school generation who actually had to overcome something. In reality, despite what he must say publicly, I suspect that he is extremely disappointed when he looks at Roosevelt in 2008. A lot of hard work by Mr. Byas's generation has been destroyed by more recent generations.
