These climbers should have been warned that Tallullah Gorge is hazardous for climbers. The rock there is crumbly and breaks off rights in your hands. Most rock climbers avoid Tallulah Gorge because its unsafe.

Tallulah has a long history of climbing. The rock is bullet hard quartzite and is not crumbly. The climbing is not unusually dangerous to the seasoned and experienced (not to say this gentlemen wasn't). I personally have climbed many routes at Tallulah including the one in question. This route was a classic that received much traffic. Although the route has its challenges it has more than ample protection to protect the lead climber. My condolences to the family and friends.

Joshua Mark Robertson died that day. The reason for his fall is unknown - he was an experienced and very good climber. The rock is not crumbly. Please do not make strong judgmental statements that involve people who you have never met. My heart goes out to the Robertson family.

First off, screw you because you didn't even know him. Second off, clearly you need to go study up on your rocks, Tallulah is not chaucy or crumbly in any way.

The reason Josh died isn't because the climb was unsafe, it's because his climbing was unsafe. He should've doubled up his protection, but he didn't because it was his first time trad climbing and he didn't know what he was doing.

So before you try to act like you know jack about what you're talking about maybe you should realize that you're completely clueless as to what happened and why it happened. You sir, are a jackass, and if I knew who and where you are I would punch you right in the mouth.

The climb was unsafe, the climber was inexperienced. It was just a matter of time before one mountain or another got him. This should teach other unsafe climbers a lesson.

I hope you realize that sometimes bad things just happen right? I was in a boulder competition and a boulder broke off over my head crushing and nearly killing me. Holds break, and pro fails--nothing is 100%, and that is why free-soloing is so stupid, because not even the best climbers can mentally will holds to last forever.

Don't think because you are an experienced or decent climber that you are invulnerable.

This is absolutely not true. The rock quality at tallulah gorge is among the best in the southeast and as long as the proper precautions are taken it can be very safe and fun!
