It's about time Sunmount started doing something about those who are truly abusive. The pattern has been to punish those who, for example, slip and swear in front of a patient, but let those who beat, taunt, and torture walk away free. And if things get too hot, they allow abusive staff to resign without consequence, or they reassign them to maintenance or some other highly sought after patient non contact job, therefore rewarding them for terrible abuse behaviors. While this goes on, they tell staff to report abuse right away, but when this does occur, they fail to back the reporters and stand by idle while the reporters themselves become targets of abuse. Why would good staff want to place themselves in that sort of a predicament knowing what the outcome always is. It's time Sunmount administration are trained to report abuse right away and let all staff and the community know that serious abuse will not be tolerated. Abuse will not end until the actions for change come from the top down. It's time for Sunmount to make a bold statement, backed with true action, that abuse will be taken seriously, especially for the most abusive. It's time to do the right thing!
