Job creation highlighted at forecast conference
#1 Jan 30, 2013
"Attended yesterday's CDF report on the condition of the region. Tended to be a pep talk. I was struck by the absence of any comments, positive or negative, about Tupelo. The CDF is the parent organization for the Tupelo Chamber of Commerce so I expected some info on Tupelo. It isn't as if we don't need more jobs in Tupelo other than service sector jobs. It isn't like we could not use more families moving into the city. Some how I have always been led to believe that Tupelo was the engine that drove Lee county. In the past year Tupelo Council, led by Mayor candidate Fred Pitts and present Mayor Jack Reed discovered, the middle class in Tupelo is shrinking, our schools had some problems, neighborhoods were deteriorating and roads were in need or repair. I would have thought that some words about the engine, given the above, would have been appropriate. Silly me. I have yet to hear a small business person in Tupelo say the CDF or CDF/Chamber of Commerce have been a benefit to them. For me yesterday reinforced that feeling. A great time for Tupelo's silent leadership to step forward."
Who will step up?
