Shirley Elementary School

For over a week now the elementary principal Mrs. Cindy Coleman has been making kids run outside up and down the concrete steps in front of the elementary building for the loss of 10 or more conduct points. These kids arent given any breaks and our child say some kids have begged to stop and were told NO by the principle. Our kids arent athletes just kids and cant do this. We see on the news everyday on athletes having heart attacks but it seems our local school principle doesnt see how dangerous her new punishment could be. We hope none of the kids fall and get hurt and hope nothing worse happens. Sure hope something is done about this horrible excuse of a principle.

And we thought it was bad that she was giving out alcohol at the Christmas Party at the school just a month or so ago. Seems she can do NO wrong and our school board just ignores the need to be rid of her.

Well if your child is not able to walk for 20 minutes with out stopping maybe you should take the Twinkie out of their hands and turn the T.V. off and make them go out and run and play and be a child? Or better yet you might want to teach your child to behave in class and not be disruptive while the teacher is trying to teach. I as a parent find it offensive that the teacher has to stop and correct this child which in turns takes away from my child’s instruction time. Maybe you should teach your self how not to be so selfish and to pass that along to your child as well?

You are missing the point. These kids were forced to RUN up and down steps for 40 minutes to periods of over 1 hour. There was NO walking to it. My child was not disciplined for this. We have NO discipline problems with our child. The problem is these kids were pushed beyond the physical abilities of a 12 year old. 2 children have had to be taken for medical treatment due to minor injuries. As a parent I firmly believe in discipline but I dont believe in ABUSE and endangerment. If you are indeed a concerned parent you need to rethink what your saying. This is being investigated by State agencies and they have taken the matter very seriously. Maybe you are saying the State is wrong for caring for the welfare of our children... I hope not.

Also I welcome you to watch the news. Athletes at sporting events are falling dead of heart attack and they are adults and in far superior physical condition. Maybe I will ask you if our legeslators are wrong in trying to pass legeslation requiring emergency equip. at sporting events to prevent our athletes from being injured. Or better yet maybe you should take the time to go to Shirley and run not walk those steps for 40 minutes with NO break and maybe you will be one of the fortunate ones Coleman yells and ridicules as you do it.

Please wake up. This is very serious and VERY dangerous.

Well it is my understanding that the children where never told to run simply walk. If the children ran it was of their own doing. They are simply engageing in physical activity which is mandated by the State bord of education. The only difference is that they are not doing it with their regular P.E. class. My qestion to you is have you spoken with the School District or are you simply content hideing behind some obscure web site?

To answer your questions about who this matter has been addressed to. 1st the Commissioner of Education and 2 members of his staff, Oliver Dillinghan and Keyth Howard. They are very concerned and have recieved formal complaints. Our Governor Mike Bee Bee has spoken to us and is asking to be called and updated. School board members have been contacted as well as the State Police Child Protective Services. The State is taking this matter very seriously unlike our superintendent and principle. May I ask if you are hiding? Make some calls and be informed.

Hey Joe 2, you sound a lot like a jerk that hung the phone up on me in anger the other night. But you are allowed to have your opinion. I have nothing to hide in my actions as do some others. And with that being said and chain of command being talked about that would have us back to the same problem that has killed our school. We havent been properly represented by a school board in some time. There are a lot of people in this community furious at the actions of those who REFUSE to not only do their job but refuse to take responsibility for the actions they are responsible for. I have in person tried to approach good ole boy folks who control our school and been treated with constant disrespect. School personell are trained people licensed by this State. At this point after all of the dirty dealing with Shirley school it needs to be explained by the people who license you. You arent going to take responsibility for your actions for the people so do it for the State or, why don't you just go away....crawl back under your rock where so many feel you came from and belong.

It is very obvious to me that the very issue of this whole thing is not being considered.

WHAT DID THE CHILD/CHILDREN DO TO BRING FORTH THIS PUNISHMENT???

Isn't it amazing how in the past 40 years that our socity has gone from one of discipline and respect to one of I DONT CARE WHO IT HURTS OR WHAT IS CORRECT I WANT IT MY WAY.

We charge our teachers with teaching our children in school. This not only includes book learning, but also that of respect and discipline. I feel that we should stand up for our teachers 100% and do all we can to support them instead of tearing them down and making statements that we dont even know the whole truth about. We as a socity have given the teachers a big job to do and have tied their hands when it comes to discipline. If you think that our children of today are little angles and do not need instructions then you are the problem. You as a parent are responsible for the discipline and teaching respect to others especially the older generation.

I fear that our parents of today have totally forgotten what it is to teach their children to say YES MAM, YES SIR, THANK YOU AND PLEASE!!!!
The parents show no respect for their elders and oneanother so the children have the same attitude.

This child/children may be totally innocient, but I'll bet you a dime to a donut that it is not the case and since we say that our teachers can no longer spank our little angles bottoms(which whether you like it or not, is the best medicine in the world for discipline and respect) then they have to do the best they can to make up for what the parents are failing to do at home.

If I were you parents that feel that your children are being taken advantage of and mistreated, then I would home school them and then you would not have to worry about some one else having to do the job that was your responsibility in the first place.

But if you truly care about your child then I would go to the teacher and the principle and find out exactly why your child was in trouble. If your child did in fact deserve the punishment, then a little more medicine from home would show them that you love them and care for them and will not allow them to act like a undiscipline, unrespectful child.

It is time for concerned parents, teachers and other interested community citizens to attend the meeting Monday night at 6PM to discuss what is going on in the Elementary School.
I hear the school principal got into a cuss fight with a parent yesterday. Where I came from both parties would have been arrested for their behavior.
What kind of example is this supposedly respected person setting for children? Very little that I see or hear about.

You are correct, and this should be covered in the student hand book. Of which a lot of parents dont even read. I for one trust the teachers enough to help in a childs education as well as being responsible enough to handle descipline when it is required. I no longer have school aged children, but you can be assured that if I did, I would get to know their teacher and that teacher would have my full permission to handle a situation that might arrise and when I was advised of the problem it would not occure again.

I also encourage all parents to attend the SB meetings on a regular basis and not just when there is something to fuss about. Just remember that these meetings have guidelines and we should have enough respect for those rules to abide by them and not take advantage of the situations.

I do not think the teachers are a problem at the Shirley El Sc. They are too intimidated, so afraid of losing their job poorly paid as it is.
From various sources it is said Mrs C told one heavyset lady she would wear a very brief swimsuit, can't correctly spell, it if she brought it to school and another poor soul that if she was told to scrub the floors, she would do it or else.
Only God could help this fool if she were this foul to me.

WAY TO GO "CTP"
Now lets all be there Monday evening and let CTP stand up and tell Mrs. C to her face what he/she has said on this site. He/She talks a good game lets see if they will carry through. The rumor/gossip mill is well and working.

Now I dont personally know many of the teachers at elementary, but the ones I am acquainted with are not going to stand still for such action as described by CTP. There would be a law suit and firing before you could say JOHN BROWN.

It amazes me that people have all the knowledge that they do, but are not truly involved trying to help the school system. It is so easy to point out all the mistakes that you see when you are not the one doing the job. If people would spend as much time trying to help as they do Gossiping it would be amazing how much better the school system would be.

Good idea CTP lets all be there and hope that this subject comes up and that each SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER is required to comment on this subject. We will then see their true colors and find out how committed they are to the education of the children at Shirley.

OH by the way CTP it would be better if you did not broadcast what you would do, just in case you might possibly be put in that situation and have to back up your word.

This would be more beneficial than telling a few friends. Whether or not you believe, the complaints are serious. Better yet, go to school and walk/run the steps for 40/60 minutes with the kids in this freezing weather.

1. Do you have children that are involved in this situation?

2. Have you been to see this event first hand?

3. What does the student hand book say about the administering of discipline?

4. What percentage of the teachers are subject to the aleged put down by Mrs. C? Number?

i was in the parts store and talk aint good people are mad as heck and sayinf thinks that are bad i heard that woman at the schoo; is crasy and mean and that man thats ove r the plac just lets he do what efer she wont i mite try to go to that meeting just to see cause people are saying this is true whats goinh on or see thesr mad peoples fighy
