My husbands grandfather was born in Little York, NY on April 28,1887 and we are just trying to find out where Little York is and if we can find out when his great grandparents lived there and if they died there or moved from there. Not sure where to begin to look as we don't even know for sure where it is.
Thank You

Sandra, try... York, Livingston County, NY Town Clerk's office. I just talked with her today. She said her birth and death records start in late 1800's. Earlier records were lost in fire as many towns' were. You might get lucky. Check census records for Livingston County. County offices are in Geneseo NY. Check web site. Good Luck. I tried to give you the town clerk's phone number, but this site won't let me. There seems to be about three Yorks in NYstate. I know for a fact that York in Livingston County was called Little York in the 1800's.

I lived in little york Ny and the vicinity for most of my life. It is in Cortland County, and can be found easily off route 81 heading north to Syracuse. It is between Preble and Homer NY. South of Syracuse. It is a very small town. I would check out the county website online and you should get lots of info. On I-81 from the South, from I-81, take Exit 12 (Homer), and continue on off-ramp to NY 281. Turn right (north) on 281.
