lol, well from what I have seen being here so far in this back wards town, and hearing it wouldn't surprise me any being true.

That would qualify as "funky" if true.

Well, let me ask these questions. Was a better qualified and experienced officer (male or female) overlooked or passed over for the position of sergeant? If so, the criticisms expressed here might be valid. On the other hand, could it be Sgt. Turner was the best qualified candidate at the time of her selection?
There were 3 officers that applied for the position of Sargent. Two of them are new officers with hardly any experience, and one is an officer with 5+ years experience. Turner got the position though, and no she is not best qualified out of the three that applied. She does, however, fit the Chief's best qualification of having T & A. I tell you, it's beyond time that someone look into the corruption of the Chief and Mayor.

lol, like I said above I know a back yard neighbor that's a stater and he said he wouldn't be surprised if her promo was due to a old ADPS Lt. that retired who came back under retirement work contract for Tularosa gaining a rank there. Im sure he would be involved too since he was buddies with the current Lt. Most agencies stick to requirements though of you must have 5 or more years experience to gain sergeant after passing tough tests. Alamogordo I noticed too has some of these skip step traits for Police. I seen a guy not too long ago being trained arresting a guy at wal mart for shop lifting, now the trainee is wearing FTO insignia. Hmmm, thought this required one to be a officer several years before training a rookie. Rookies training rookies and supervising. I hope they are Einsteins and very good if so.

Oh, I forgot to add, I noticed every promotion you hear of here, or officer graduating is said to be "the highest scored in class". Hmmm. Damn they are better at hiring the winners then the Air Force Enlisted officers or elite school.

DPS has so many new FTOs because of the high turnover. The officers leave for better working conditions as soon as they can. That is why rookies are training rookies. If DPS treated officers as good as other departments they would stay longer.

Are they overworked? I understand the city plans to implement a reduction in force due to budget deficits. That seems very ill advised, considering the critical mission they perform.

Yes they are overworked, I left as soon as I could. I won't go in depth, but I quickly got to the point where I didn't like going to work anymore. I am much happier at my current department. I also couldn't stand the fact that I was a "firefighter." The fire training was horrible.

Ya congrats, but well deserved? 18 months?? how can you get enough experince in such a little time to get such a promotion? Have you seen the Work? Great very nice pretty young lady but maybe thats how it worked to get promoted in this case. Be Safe Out There!! Cause I don't!!!
It is possible but rare that a US Army soldier makes SGT in that time. Elvis did. Not because he was famous. Soldiers with college come in one step away from SGT. 18 months of hard work that you probably could not imagine. Deal with it.
