What a tragedy that the 4 lane hiway had not been completed. New Mexico should make 4 laning every hiway in New Mexico a top priority. What a terrible loss of lives this has been.

UNFORTUNTELY, in this case, I don't believe it would have made a difference. Would be nice to have 4 lanes. I don't like driving that road especially when someone tailgates you.

Is there a road-street in this town, where some asshole cowboy doesn't tailgate you?

I just love these alamo-clowns when I'm coming down a mountain from cloudcroft, or ruidoso.

I think I need to start getting in the habit of packing the blue steel when I drive. Let's see if they can outdrive a 158 grain .357 Federal Hydrashock slug?

If you friggin geezers would at least do the speed limit or just get out of the damn way, none of this would happen!

I am very concious of the speed I travel on all streets-roads her, and I constantly monitor my speed. Why? Because law authorities are as well monitoring my speed very closely.

I haven't had a moving violation in a good 25-28 years. yes, when I was younger, lots of speeding tickets, and with a threat of license revocation after 3 moving violations, and higher insurance rates, I learned the hard way to cool my jets when I get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

But see, the problem here is not that I'm going to slow, because it seems no one here adheres to the posted speed limits. Nobody!

Don't believe me? Drive down White Sands Blvd. Do 35mph on the south end, and then stay at the 45mph posted limit at the north end, and you'll see how many are either crawling into your glove compartment, a car length off your rear bumper, or are passing you at a good rate.

Conclusion? 98% of Alamogordo drivers drive like assholes who got their licence illegally, like from a Cracker Jack Box. And that probably isn't far from the truth.

Your hick redneck cowboys with their pickup trucks think they own the road, "look out pilgrim, my redneck ass is in a big hurry, and your blocking the path of my big awesome peekup truck!"

You know what it is? Redneck hillbillies are all for one, and one for none, not a goddamn bit of consideration, or thought for anyone else, only themselves.

Amazing, that one can go from one end of the town, to the other in as little as 5 minutes. By the way everyone's in such a goddamn big rush here, you'd swear the drive was from here to the Alaskan Klondike.

The ones that sometimes drive slow? You can bet they're the ones with no insurance, no license. Not too hard to figure out you alamo-ghettoans, is it?

The left lane is for passing only and it needs to be enforced. And if you are driving below the speed limit you are obstructing traffic and it needs to be enforced. Following too close needs to be enforced. and speeding needs to be enforced. It all needs to be enforced like a mofo. I won't have anything to worry about because I follow the law.

I grew up in High Rolls and lived in Cloudcroft. Do some drive slow? Yes, but I remember the first time I drove down that mountain with my dad. Did about 35. Was very scary. I always remember that and a crash up on that road is rarely a small matter. Usually someone dies. So calm down, slow down, and remember nothing is so important as to put you or another life in danger.
In Alamo, I always wait to make sure they stop. I have to protect my children and myself. Is it annoying the way others drive? Very, but again, I won't gamble on them being considerate or paying attention. Can't play the blame game if I am dead.

On a 3 or 4 lane highway, yes, I agree. But there probably isn't a 3 or 4 lane highway within 100 miles of Alamogordo. And out on the open road, like I-70, or 54, then yes, I agree, if you are driving below the posted speed limits, then stay in the right lane.

But on White Sands Blvd? Hell no! Especially not if I'm driving the posted speed limit. If the redneck cowboys with their lead feet, and soccer mom's with their cell phones are in that big of a goddamn hurry, they can go around me. Tough shit I say, you're priorities, that you gotta get the hay back to your horses out on the ranch, or that 18 pack of Bud Lite are no more important than other's needs, or where others have to go. Learn to drive like human beings, not the self centered bastard rednecks that you typically are here.

There's too many businesses lining White Sands, that require a driver to be in the left hand lane for one. It cannot be helped that much of white sands blvd, and alamogordo is nothing more than one long strip mall, with no side streets that a stop sign, stop light, or a turn lane can be implemented-installed.

The only reasons one doesn't see much in the way of road rage here in NM, is due to the fact that one can carry a loaded weapon. That one just might pick the wrong person to mess with. And that's how it should be everywhere in this country.

Unless i forgot the road going to base is 3 lanes on each side. While i agree that people drive like fools in town you still have to follow the rules and there are signs all over town that say slower traffic keep right. So you got to follow the rules no matter how big and ass is driving behind you. Now as to myself I tend to like to do the speed limit or a tiny bit below it just to watch the person driving behind me have a fit.

I totally understand, and somewhat agree, that it is cute to do, and to have the attitude of "screw um, and make em bust" by slowing down (or not speeding up to illegal speeds to satisfy these type of jerks).

But I commonly comply, pull any which way I can with a lane change, to get out of their way, because if they're one car length behind me at 35-45mph, they're compromising my safety margin, and increasing the chances-probability of an accident occuring if I have to suddenly stop for whatever reason.

Same thing coming down the mountains, if I have some clown right on my bumper, trying to push me down the mountain, I'll even pull off onto the shoulder if I feel it necessary.

I reckon this is what's called "defensive driving", and the bottom line I reckon is to get from point A, to point B in one piece, safe and sound.

It's better to do this, than to continue having these types of people right on your bumper.

It doesn't matter how many lanes it has, if it has 2 or more lanes the left lane is for passing, PERIOD. If you can't maintain the posted speed limit get out of the left lane. There are some many idiots that crawl down the left lane not doing the psoted speed limit. They need to make it legal to bump and pass like a little NASCAR action. Can't drive fast enough, get out of the way. Its not up to you to enforce the speed limit by holding up traffic in the left lane. You want to start enforcing the driving laws, get on the DPS force.

Yes, I agree, but not sure if you've agreed, or disagreed with what I wrote? It sounds like the latter to me?

These are common rules of the road in all 50 states, but the problem I see, is that using the left lane, and traveling at the exact posted speed limit just isn't good enough for people, because they like to travel above the posted speed limits on every street, and road.

It's one major reason I believe why I note so many more accidents happening here within the past 3-5 years. People are in too much of a hurry. I note this particularly in the morning hours, at 5-7 minutes before every hour, people in a rush to get to their jobs, and not be late. Then again at the famous "lunch hour, people in a damn big rush to eat, then back to their wonderful jobs.

While the right lane on the highways (54-70) may not often be as smooth or level as the left lane, traveling in the right lane is safer, as you have a one lane margin distance between yourself, and oncoming traffic.
