Stifling heat forced a second wave of track cancellations throughout the Midwest and East Coast on Friday.

Thistledown in Ohio and Penn National Race Course in Grantville, Pennsylvania scrapped their live racing cards on Friday due to the heat. Penn National said in a release that racing is scheduled to resume on Saturday with a first-post time of 6 p.m.

That cannot be said for Delaware Park, which canceled Saturday’s card due to the heat. The decision was made after Delaware Park Executive Director of Racing John Mooney consulted with John T. Peters, the state racing commission’s chief veterinarian.

Additionally, Monmouth Park will not race today after canceling on Thursday.

Saratoga Race Course opened its 40-day meet as scheduled on Friday. New York Racing Association officials provided additional ice buckets and hoses around the track and shortened post parades to help horses cope with the high temperatures
