I've read many of your post, and I know the Doraville area, my question is does DPD ever hire police officers, that are proactive and wanting to clean up the streets of Doraville? This city has a lot of potential!

I have heard they make most of their money on the side- shaking down drug dealers, etc.
But no, since they don't actually live here, they have no interest in cleaning up the area.
I've heard they even let illegals drive without drivers' licenses.

I really doubt that happens!

That's true!
DPD is sometimes called the Dysfunctional Police Dept. They've had 2 DUI cops and 1 SWOD cop (Sex while on Duty!) in recent years.
They've also been accused of Racial Profiling in the past.
In addition, they're under investigation about 2 mysterious jailhouse deaths by the FBI.

Your information is so wrong or outdated, it's laughable.

The DPD has always been there when me and any of my neighbors have neeeded them.

Your comments must be some type of sour grapes. Get a ticket you couldn't get out of? Hmmmm????

I agree with Okey Dokey, I'm sure there were some bad apples in the group but you can based your comments on the personal choices those officers made.

If someone wants a ticket fixed just go to Dumna or flim flam Pam. Of course it helps if you're a slumlord who lives in Dunwoody but I'm sure they will make an exception if it means a vote or some other favor.

True, Marky Mark, but the police shouldn't be blamed for that...the person requesting the "fix" is at fault.

Dumya is the DPD's boss and, whether they want to or not, usually comply to keep their job. Would you tell your boss "no?"

Not if wanted to stay on the payroll. And some may be more apt to go against their personal integrity to keep a job in these hard times.

Exactly! I didn't mean to imply otherwise. The police only write the citations anyway, after that it's in the hands of the court and, well let's just say that is the very department who managed to LOSE 3 million dollars of revenue for the city.

So is the dept looking to hire officers, for the areas there taking over starting Jan 1st? Or are they going to use the officers they have now?

You might check out Dekalb. They just had several officers indicted- one for 5 counts of child molestation!

We were told that the annextion would not cost any more money nor would we need any additional police officers. We're not buying it. And the mayr wants to open a "precinct" in the newly annexed strip center. Not sure who will man it or how that will not cost any additional money.

I can understand that Doraville is 3.7 sq. miles and has 60 officers. Thats 15 officers per square mile.

Does that number total all officers?(For example administration, top brass) or is that patrol?

That's a total. Sounds like a lot to me.
Doraville at one time had a police chief who was fired for mis-appropriating funds on sporting goods (thats a code word for prostitutes).
But today, they're either clueless or totally without ethics as they've been observed running radar (laser or IR actually) on the COUNTY SIDE of Buford Highway.
About a year ago, they traded shots with Dunwoody officers in a sort of "turf war".
Turns out that area was in Dekalb County also.

This sounds like a bunch of crap to me...do you have actual proof or just hearsay? Why don't you ask Chief directly if this is true? You might get the true facts rather than what someone "heard" or supposedly "observed."

Somebody have a run in with the cops and now spewing forth sour grapes??

If people would take the time to learn what it actually take to police this hellhole, they might have different thoughts. And now they have annexed even more trash areas for them to police with no thought given to how much this would cost the city or how much manpower it would take.

I think if they "traded shots" it would have become public knowledge before now.

What an idiot.

Okey Dokey that's why I don't understand, why they don't hire more officers? To pick up on the annexation
