From Doravilleonlinenews.com :

The Town center of Doraville georgia is a quaint collection of old buildings dating back to its 1871 incorporation. The City’s town square, perched on the highest peak of the downtown, is a bustling old town village square with shops, eateries, pastry and professional offices. The kind of square and central commons one might find in new england. A wishing well marks a corner of the square that dips into a centuries old spring. A quiet meadow with yet another spring feeding a bubbling creek running through the center city park. The stream head was the watering hole for the Creek and Cherokee Indians as they traveled the trail now occupied by the new Peachtree road and rail station. The civic block, with its town hall, old courthouse and library, form a buffer or transition between the commerce of the square and the gentle rustle of the trees and lush grass at the edge of the bubbling creek of Flowers park. Two story brownstones and 20′s style brick single family homes crowd the downtown center.
Oops! Got carried away- Moon over Doravile is the topic. The girls gone wild at city hall in Doraville- Donna ( the ex mall guard) and her Vegas side kick Sandra, the part time- full time clerk ( trained at great expense by the city to be a certified city clerk, paid like a certified clerk with none of the duties) won’t have to drive all the way to the Cheatah lounge to go shopping for their heels and frock. The two, along with Joe the planner, have managed to put a Wholesale lingerie business smack in the middle of the town center. This will add to the mixed use environment so in vogue among today’s avant-guard planners. The three have added a massage/ acupuncturist, a adult novelty wholesale warehouse across from the wishing well spring, and now, Moon Lingerie. A little something bought in bulk to go with the latest spank me pumps or the lash me 6 inch spikes so popular on the hoofs of the city’s two city hall Divas. Joey and his girls have been busy.
All of the above are in c-2 zoning in the quaint village of Doraville. That means highway commercial business, retail operations that meet the zoning laws of city. The key words highway commercial, zoning laws, and legal conforming businesses. Seems Our Queen for the day Donna and her Vegas princess sidekick are not doing their required reading. Joey, the planner will have to keep them better informed. Wholesale businesses are not legal in c-2. The zoning is not transferable, and the building in question has never housed any business except the gm union hall since it was built in 1957. Our two damsels can certainly see Moon lingerie from their offices. Perhaps the thought of the latest in frill was too much and clouded their judgement. Whatever the reason, its not legal ladies, you will have to put it back or mean mister legal will make you put it back.
The council will most likely step in in the form of a adult – such as Trudy Jones-Dean. Zoning law and the zoning act are not to be trifled with girls.

Haven't you heard? Moon Lingerie has gone RETAIL! The owner just changed his business model to accomodate our zoning! Isn't that nice of him? This is great, now when we attend meetings we can see the large sign screaming "Moon Lingerie" from our seats at council meetings! I am so proud that a historical landmark has been turned into yet another low class dump, I can't wait to see what's next!

Tom, as a rule I, like many others, rarely agree with you but in this case, right on!

It is absurd that our city leaders have allowed this to happen. Period. Donna feigns ignorance saying she had no idea Moon was settling in. She says the city lawyer can't do anything. What part of "illegal" or "not zoned for wholesale" don't these people understand? The owner had, stupidly, paid a huge amount of cash for the property without doing due diligence. Poor guy...he's so nice...we will let it slide. I can just hear our city leaders saying this. I can also pretty much bet the owner made it worth their while to look the other way.

This is not only a slap in the face of residents of Doraville, but borders on criminal. If all of us were smart, we would use this to get rid of Donna's sorry butt (and others on council) and ride them out of town on a rail. That seems to be the only way we are going to retake our city.

People, if you are not collectively mad as hell, shame on you. You should be!

How about revoking their Certificate of Occupancy and their business license? Tell them to apply for a rezoning. It is so easy. The City attorney involves himself in this for his other more classy clients.

Yes, go ahead and revoke any of the above. Then get ready for the biggest lawsuit Doraville has or ever will see. And watch the taxes go up to pay for the lawsuit. You people are brilliant. Yes, it is so easy. I hope council and the mayor aren't going to pay any attention to any of this. Shame on them if they do.

Observer Too, either go get an eduction or crawl back under that rock...everything most of us post is documented and validated and efforts are in the making for a coup...they just have to be done carefully to make sure nothing backfires. We are sick to death of people always throwing out the lawsuit carrot. Hell, council members even sued the city and escaped their constituents' wrath.

If it was so illegal, why is it that every other comparable town in the metro area can do it and not get sued. You people have been brainwashed and scared to death at the word "lawsuit." If we had a city attorney worth his salt, he would be sure to ward off and lawsuits.

But, oh yeah, he is too busy doing just that for Sandy Springs and other nearby towns who actually DO have a vision for their cities and DON'T give a crap about being sued. If he can't do that for us (as he is paid to do) then he should be shown the door.

Time to quit crying out "the sky is falling!" and actually band together to get city hall offenders "perp walked" out of the building!

"Observer Too" doesn't live under a rock. He spends his waking hours still being angry about an employee who was fired over a year ago and scheming on how to keep that illegal backyard business up and running.

How are the taxes going to go up when our home values aren't even assessed at the minimum taxable level? I say bring on that lawsuit, it's time to make a stand and take this city where WE want it to go. You've had your chance, along with the slumlords and others like you and it did not work out. Most of us are real curious about what exactly is in for you. How much cash are you being paid to help the slumlords continue to inflict this sick, low class garbage on the rest of us?

If Moon is a wholesale operation, that is clearly not a C2 business. If they have a substantial retail operation, how do you go about denying a license? C2 allows clothing shops. Just because the idea of lingerie makes you blush doesn't mean you can just decide that they can't use their property within the law.

Lingerie doesn't make any of us "blush". It's just when it's combined with massage and illegal activities going on in basements across the city and the sign is made of 3' tall lettering screaming "Sleazy" it just makes the city look worse than it already is. Listen "Madison", you must have had a nice lunch with a slumlord or slumlord lover today and they filled your head with bullshit. We all know FOR A FACT that this asshole raised hell with the city when they told him he could not operate a wholesale business at that location. You don't just change your business model over night, unless of course your dealing with Cecil and Donna who conspired and figured out a loophole for you to jump through. The place is wholesale, and it's sleaze. Sounds like you need to go get a nice "foot" massage. Plus, go by the cheesy "Moon Lingerie" WHOLESALE store at Pinetree where he's moving from. Look up the website, it's lovely.

That is very impressive name calling, Mark. I don't think you answered any questions. My post was four short sentences. It shouldn't have been too tough to comprehend.

IF they are a retail business (please read carefully - I said "IF") I imagine they can sell any type of clothing they like, be it lingerie or head scarves or baggy pants or sombreros. I don't think that decision is up to you, no matter how mad you and your friends are. If they are not a retail business, then that should be relatively easy to determine once they open. You can't deny a legal, zoning appropriate business based on "I bet you are lying" or "I don't like those clothes". Do you perhaps think that every business application should be up for a public vote? Or a council vote?

Are you a council member or one of Donna's stooges, Madison? Sounds like their kind of logic.

I guess you love living in a city that's become sleaze central under their watch (remember Donna proudly proclaiming she had served on council for 8 years?) and getting sleazier with every dumbass move like this. The point you are missing is that this was an opportunity to just say NO to this type of crap. Instead, mayor and legal council, knowing we all want to rid the city of this type of business that is conducive to lowlife activities, worked AGAINST us and for the slumlord. But, awww gee, he didn't do his due diligence, knowing full well he could get away with murder, and we don't want him to have a financial hardship...poor fella, let's help him out...and everyone else be damned.

If you aren't already on council or connected to the incompetent leadership in this city, hurray! The less we have of your ilk the better.

This is all about doing what the majority of the residents want, not helping out a scumbag. After all, weren't they elected BY US to make our city better. You can bet all the business owners didn't vote her in. At the end of the day, they escape Doraville and go to their comfortable, sleaze-free communities. Seems our leaders didn't get the message.

But they soon will....

Lots of quacking on here.

How do you say NO to a legal application? by being really angry? By saying WE don't like it in capital letters?

C2 allows "Clothing, apparel, and accessories stores selling new merchandise." If they are selling retail it is legal. You can be angry and call names all you want, but that doesn't carry much weight outside of the grade school playground.

If they do not sell retail they will be cited. If they sell retail they are legal.

As look like a duck says, they only "magically" claimed to sell retail when it would fit the loophole.

If they had been retail all along, that's another story. This is a matter of manipulation and changing the rules to accomodate a sleazy business.

Nuff said. Madison you just don't have a clue. No amount of explanation will enlighten you.

Did stewie and donna pay you to try and convince people that this slime is ok cause it's legal? Legal doesn't make it right. They won't be cited. Donna doesn't allow businesses to be cited.

What you don't seem to understand is that this guy came and TRIED to apply as wholesale and was told NO. It's not Doraville's fault that this moron paid 1.2 million for a building BEFORE researching the zoning. Well Donna just trotted on over to "legal" and they devised a plan to allow this sleaze in an area designated as an "improvement zone" by our last comp plan. I'm pretty sure that a huge lingerie store (and we all know there will be more than "lingerie" sales going on there) was not what was in mind to "improve" the area. And besides, the guy is WHOLESALE. Donna and Cecil gave him a way out of his mess, at our expense. I'm betting Donna and Cecil tossed out the "disco" loophole to the Georgia Palace. This is in no way a legal business, there's not even a storefront, it's just a big warehouse.
