OK, here this thread goes, hope it remains clean from city and county politics and such.

Talk and chat about anything except lawsuits, activists, and the like.

I'll begin by asking users of the forum if they cook out, and are you able to keep a flame lit in this wind? As for myself, I haven't cooked out for days now, the wind keeps blowing the flame out on my gas grill, and I don't dare use charcoal bacause of the sparks that'll fly everywhere. As most of you know, we have red flag warnings across the state.

Let's go! Please keep things pleasant.

No, cooking out seems not to be an option right now. The wind just comes out of nowhere these days. But this is the time of the year for it.
As dry as it is, I would say we should abide by the red flag warnings, I would hate to see some of our green landscape harmed in any way.

Yeah, check this out, a couple of years ago, I went up to upper gallinas in the Gila, red flag warnings everywhere, but not at that particular campground, go figure....there were fires burning all over the place, even close to Mimbres. I ran a clean camp that year, no open fires at all. i used scrap pieces of plywood to block the wind from blowing out my portable gas grill.

I got visits from the Kingston and Mimbres volunteer fire depatments. I guess they were checking me out.

No, unfortunately haven't been able to grill and that sucks (love the grilled meat)
What would you folks say is a high wind day?
By that I mean if winds are 5 to 10, that's one thing. 20 to 30 is another. As we all know the winds can just kind of happen, so wondering what your own personal level is.

The only time I have ever seen a roof torn off like the one at the Hall across from Bullock's is tornado force. Wonder what the windspeed was that day?

I've got 2 t-bones in the freezer still from the last time Bullock's had a sale on them, sucks too, can't keep the grill going either. Mother nature: we're waiting!

Does anyone watch Deadwood? on directv? The episode I watched last night, c*ck S*cker seemed to be the favorite swear word over some stolen drugs and killings for the drugs. That series amazes me. I didn't know they had opium problems back in those days. Or druggies either.

I think about 5 miles per hour is about i am able to contend with and go with my day. Anything faster than that becomes a real nuisance.

You know when your day is kind of canceled when you see part of your roof blowing past you.

Unless you're willing to wait until after the sun goes down to grill, which is when the winds mostly die down, we'll just have to wait. I love cooking outside on the weekends, but that's what we have to contend with this time of year.

I tell my friends who don't live here that our seasons are little screwed up. We have a little cold weather from October to February, then the wind blows and doesn't stop until June. Then it gets stinkin' hot. Late September through October is the nicest time of year, then we start all over again.

Oh well, it's still a lot better in Sierra County than a lot of other places. I heard Oklahoma got clobbered by tornadoes today. Nashville is still cleaning up from a horrific flood last week. And we don't have to put up with hurricanes and oil slicks here either.

A) Thank you folks for the advice about grilling here.
B)Dexter is cooler than Deadwood. I can't wait for True Blood to come back around

Count me in on sick of the wind. I`m fortunate enough to have a break on my back patio that wont blow out my grill. Front yard, different story, i end up with all the neighbors trash. One morning I went out and found 8 $20.00 bills in the corner of my yard, no chit. (it pays to clean up)lol

Yeah, al lives up to his name doesn't he??!! I wonder if they really did cuss so much back in those days? I'd always thought back then that cowboys and such feared God, and that cussing wasn't appropriate around ladies. These days it doesn't really matter because when I was in the armed forces, some of the girls cussed worse or more than some of the guys.

I was sort of sorry to see HBO wasn't going to do another season of Deadwood. Seemed that every episode had you hanging on the edge of your seat to see who was going to get thrown into mr. woo's pig pen (body disposal). I thought for sure Bullock was going to end up there, what with him grabbing people by the ear and escorting them to jail.

I was, was being the keyword here, going to do burgers last night, the wind died off only momentarily, and I thought, oh boy, flame cooked! Not.

Anyone here know when or if the next sale/auction at the fairgrounds is going on? I'm looking for a golf cart, riding mower or a ATV for my lot groundskeeping. Need something to pull a drag to knock down the weeds and goatheads.

Sorry about the goatheads, I've been trying to control 'em.
Kudos for the Iraqi troop gifts! Wished our people could all come home right now.

So, this may not be the place to ask this...if it's not, my bad luck. Hell Sue Me
But I have found what I think may be a couple Geodes about the size of Bowling Balls. Where would I take them to be cut? Thanks for any and all info.

There used to be a fellow in the RJ rv park who moved up the hill to that mobile home park by the Y near Bullocks, across from that old realtor office, who could cut rocks open. Can't recall his name, but he and wife were living in an old yellow/whie travel trailer, you could try him if he's still around. He is a rock collector of sorts, he'd probably do it for you just for the joy of you both seeing what's inside.

Sure have, but holding out on the feeders until this wind stops.

YES! I love hummingbirds and feed them.
Be quick with your picture taking as they are such fast little birds.
They are around and I'm sure would appreciate any sugar water you felt the need to provide.:D
No worries, they'll find you
