Paying more than $13,000 an acre for 27 acres AND $10,000 to convey a right of way for the road to Sid Bryan is simply the latest Hospital land scam.

In researching, I find dozens and dozens of public road easements granted to municipalities and counties. Not ONE is for more than $1. Yes, ONE DOLLAR. Yet, we're so damned special and oh so very rich of a community that we pay $10K or $370K for what other communities pay ONE DOLLAR.

THEFT FROM THE PUBLIC COFFERS going to another realtor.

I am sickened.

Correct me if I'm wrong Deb, but if this sale is approved, then Sierra County will have paid more than $1 million for about 40 acres of undeveloped desert at the request of the Sierra Vista Hospital. I believe that the owner of the piece currently being purchased, originally paid about $7,000 per acre, so what suddenly makes these 27 acres of empty desert arroyos so valuable?

MORE IMPORTANTLY- When will state oversight finally save local taxpayers from the unscrupulous price-gouging and bid rigging of local public officials intimately connected to the desperate real estate agents of Sierra County, New Mexico?

The Truth or Consequences real estate market is DEADER THAN RALPH EDWARDS. No one is moving anything, and therefore land values should be subject to market forces... making this property about 85% overpriced. How can this happen again after the Stookey fiasco?

The SMOKING GUN behind the Royal Bank of Canada's advice to fund the $pacePork Palace Hospital with an amendment to the 1990's County Ordinance setting the Triage Tax:

UNDERWRITING FEES FROM INTEREST RATE SWAPS
The RBC stands to profit hugely from underwriting fees and interest rate swaps. The Taxpayer is the Monkey in the Middle, never really benefitting from the shell game with public money.

Ummm...the agenda referred to the "hospital emergency gross receipts tax," a tax which exists. This tax may also only be imposed for two years, and then may be additionally imposed for another three years. So, therefore, this tax is only two years old if the statutes are being followed.

I don't see any tax authorized by statute entitled "Triage Tax" and, like I said, the agenda called it the "hospital emergency gross receipts tax," which does exist.

If it is not the "hospital emergency gross receipts tax" and is, instead, some other tax, then the County is in violation of OMA as the agenda was wrong, and there was no authority for publication of the ordinance.

Now here's something interesting...it looks like they amended the agenda last minute and now simply call it the "Sierra County Hospital GRT."

There is no such thing. The tax must be referred to by its statutorily required name, as each type of tax has different rules.

So...what is the REAL name of this tax?

I believe the key term you used that differentiates the issues is "if the statutes are being followed"

The ordinance was not titled the "Triage Tax". The '90s referendum gave the voters the choice between GRT to pay for a porky new hospital with all the trimmings and GRT to pay for an upgraded emergency room for triage and transport to a big-city hospital. The voters chose the emergency room for triage and transport to a big-city hospital.

Over the years, the various committees keep trying to change the definition of the referendum to fit the Porky Palace Hospital by using a vague name, such as the 'Sierra County Hospital GRT', which isn't the statutory name, either. So it's important to fight fire with fire and keep referring to the truth. That referendum is a lot of typing so I shortened it to Triage. It's the one phrase that cuts through all the special interests and political spin.

If they want the tax to pay for the Porky Palace Hospital, then, as you've pointed out so many times, they need to conduct a referendum.

The new real name of the tax should be Monkey in the Middle Tax.
