The men walking around the Bodine Assembly and Test Systems plant Wednesday morning come from the same mold - in their 40s or older, dressed neatly but not to impress, comfortable in the factory setting and ... Full Story

I wonder how much money did bodine get before they announced their departure. I barely can recall, that when I was in the City council they got some tax breaks and City assitance becasue they needed to expand due to increased business. Now I wonder if they were truthfull.

The Bodine boys sold out for a buck. They got a nice TV spot ("Made in America") and now they are being greedy. Ah, that's OK, it was a crap hole anyway.

If taxes were not so high, lots of businesses would stay here and relocate here. Democrats have chased them out over the past 40 years. You raise an interesting point. As soon as the tax break exspires, they are gone.

Companies like Bodine has been out sourcing work for decades! Has nothing to do with Bridgeports taxes! All over the US it is the same story. US seems to think that the service industry is the way to go.

The Bridgeport Regional Business Council and Fabrizi strongly believe that the service industry is the way to go and Manufacturing was out for the count. You think maybe they would embrace the Drug Manufacturing and Service Industry? Oh! yea, we have that already.

You have no clue what you are talking about. The only out sourcing that was carried out was probably for raw materials. Everything was designed, machined, and assembled in Bridgeport. You are ignorant to the type of company Bodine was.

Bodine has been on a decline for years! I am not saying that Bodine outsourced anything! Manufacturing as a whole in the US has been on a steady decline! Many states like Connecticut do more to focus on the service industry such as a casino, large retail outlets and other entertainment venues to create jobs. 99 percent of the articles that are printed in the paper about a particular town’s revitalization always start with some ones grand idea of a shopping center, hotel, condos or some large entertainment complex. Very rare do you read a revitalization article about a particular town that a factory will be hiring hundreds or thousands of workers. Apparently Bodine could not compete with the global market and has to move on!

I was with Bodine for 20 years, it was a great company to work for up until 2000 when they hired "outside" the family to micro-manage the company. It was downhill from there, by the time the family caught on, it was to late.

jwilson: You are right again. High taxes are why manifacters move out of this city, and why new manifacters don't move into these same factories buildings. There is so many empty factories with no jobs and no owners paying property taxes, in evey city in every state, but. not just in Bridgeport.

Someone should ask the Bodine boys why they turned down a higher offer from a company that would have kept Bodine in Bridgeport and preserved the employees jobs.

If you do, you are lying, which you are good at.
It is too cold to do anything outside. You don't even known what I look like. The bottom line is: many people in this city lost factory jobs, over the years. What happen to GE?

You are right for once. I feel sorry for all these people who lost jobs. Just think all the money the city is losing from property taxes on these abandoned factories. Finch, what are you doing about business moving>

It's sad - one day nothing will be manufactured in the U.S. If they really want to save us from a recession and becoming much more, government will bring back manufacturing.

Has nothing to do with taxes??? Then why did they ask for Tax credits? Why did GE go to court to have their tax on the property on boston ave reduced? You bet your a__ it has to do with taxes. It is the number one reason business has moved out.
