BRIDGEPORT -- Minutes after he was elected Board of Education chairman Monday night, the Rev. Kenneth Moales Jr. was shouting over a board member who filed a motion to censure him for "insensitive, disrespectful, disparaging, racist and stereotypical" comments made in the past.
In a 5-3 vote, Moales, whose wife and children sat through the four-hour meeting to see him elected president, was chosen to replace outgoing chairwoman Jacqueline Kelleher. Kelleher said, who she felt she could better focus on student achievement as a regular board member, was then chosen to replace Moales as vice chairman.
After the voting, Sauda Baraka, one of the board's three Working Families members, made an "incidental motion" to censure Moales, one of the six Democrats on the nine-member panel.
"A censure is an incidental motion?" asked Thomas Mulligan, as everyone looked around in confusion. "By whose definition?"
"Yes it is," Baraka insisted. "By Robert's rules."
She then proceeded to read her motion, containing a list of incidents including one in which Moales is quoted in the meeting's minutes as having told board member Maria Pereira she was acting like "you're on Ritalin or you're special ed."
Moales refused to listen. "Welcome to the new administration," he said, loudly speaking over Baraka. "I'd like to make a motion to adjourn. Can I get a second? Welcome to Kenneth Moales Jr.'s administration. The meeting is adjourned, in Jesus' name have a great night. Welcome to the new revelation."
With that, all board members and the few staffers and visitors at the meeting gathered their belongings. Only Baraka, Pereira and Kelleher stayed in their seats while she finished reading.
Baraka then took a vote on her resolution, with fellow Working Families Party members Pereira and John Bagley voting in favor. Kelleher abstained.
"At this particular time Mr. Moales has been censured," Baraka said loudly, although only Pereira was listening at that point. "He has opted not to take part in the discussion. He has every right to do so and he did not. Let it be known at this particular moment that he has been censured and there are repercussions to that censure."
Once Baraka adjourned, Moales walked up to her.
"I assure you, you will regret doing that in front of my wife and kids," he told her. Baraka, in turn, called out for security, but no one was paying attention.

What a surprise.Look anyone who can read knows that the working families party was started in the mid ninties by the unions and the communist party..It's not a secret they boast about it on their websites..(Go look..I'll wait)..There..So we have a very concerned and very religous man in charge now and they are opposed..All those that are still amazed that Communists oppose religon please stand up....They oppose any and all non secular reasoning and want to get to the kids early to convert them...The more you study it the more you see it is true..Don't believe me do your own research..I welcome it..
