At the height of this housing crises, the city decides to re-asse all properties. Great job. My house pays $400 extra now.

Plus the tax-excempt properties grew by almost $500 million.

Nothing against religon but we need to stop building churches in this city.

The last revaluation took place in 2003. "Although there has been a fluctuation in sales prices over the last five years, statistics prove that values are still higher in 2008 than they were in 2003," the city's Chief Financial Officer Michael Feeney stated in a press release.

Bull$hiit I can't sell my house for what it's assessed at. In 2003 I had my house assessed for an equity loan (that I ended up not needing)At the time it was "worth" 340k. I couldn't give it away for 240k now. My assessment is presently at 200k which is supposed to be 70% of what it's worth. Doing the math I'm paying more for taxes now than what I can sell my house for.

One of the reasons there are so many foreclosures in Bridgeport is that owners want to get the price they paid in a high market. We are now in a deep recession, prices will perhaps not be what you paid rather than lose your house to foreclosure, find out current sold prices that compares with your home...possibly paint it and price it at the market. If you have a mortgage higher than the comparable sold homes, talk to tour bank about a short sale.
The entire marketing should be realistic price wise and seamless. What is happening is too many sellers don't price their properties properly and they lose the market and then their homes. Remember your grandmother's statement "a stitch in time saves nine".well proper pricing saves foreclosures...it's all in the details and a proper price in today's market is the important detail...Good luck.
