This completes todays lesson on how to keep a union goon busy making threats he/she knows nothing about..Tune in next week when we find out if they know the difference between MIG and TIG..on the shop floor..Along with curing time for compo panels and other "trade school?" puzzles..If you would like to join the class buy a white van or pickup, put a ladder rack on it..Once this is done, forget about thinking for yourself..Do only what the steward says, when he says it,then salivate and ask if you are being a good dog..Never use independent thought to problem solve..Follow the contract no matter who it screws..Roll over..Fetch..You Goons give lessons to sheep in non thought and obedience..Dance monkey dance..

Your Union brainiac..during the Bridgeport Machine Strike..I even have pictures..The dumbass stewards didn't realize they were being photographed..so they wore their Union jackets while they did it..Court doc's say the President of the union gave them DIRECT ORDERS to do it..Unfair practices hearing didn't even speak .just ran the photos. But thats OK go back to reading the weekly "do as you are told" union bulletin...We wouldn't want you to have an independent thought now would we..Thats what gets you the shun, silent treatment on the floor..Slightly more childish than "I'll take my ball and go home" but as effective..Dance monkeys dance...

While I would agree that the UAW caused Avco/Lycoming Textron to move because of poor production quotas, Bridgeport Machine (finest milling machines of their time) were put out of business by NAFTA and GAT. The imported millers that came through without tarrifs were just too attractive to the greedy corporate types, but what the heck Igor, it's easier for your blatant inferiority complex to blame the Unions.

BTW, I never threatened anyone...never have, never will. I fear someone must have really threatened you at one time or another because your so fixated on it. Closing it up, as you are really starting to bore me, if that Bama comment was referencing President Obama winning the election, I honestly voted for Romney. Like most Union workers, I vote my beliefs, not my Unions recommendation. Im a loyal American first and foremost and although I believe them both to be lying bloodsuckers, I thought Romney was better for the country!

Hey Igor,

A Non Union voice here.

Guys (or girls) like you are one of the main reasons unions still exist.

Your elitist dribble, name calling(monkey - really?)and unsound, ilogical arguments reek of the BS being sold to more and more American workers while their jobs are being whittled away and outsourced.

All in the name of Corporate profit.

The Sikorsky worker is correct when he points out that the down hill slide began with NAFTA and other lopsided trade agreements that put our workforce in the position to try and compete with third world production. Keep it up genius. Drink the Koolaid and you'll be standing in line for soup soon too.

As for "entertainment value". Your witty back and forth with the union guy is pretty funny, kind of sad, but funny.

Your grandad the "toolmaker", would probably be pretty disappointed and embarassed by the "tool" that has appeared in his family tree.

Hey Sikorsky Worker. I don't agree with everything unions do or the way they act, but your argument is pretty much on target.

In the effort to "globalize" the standard of living in most low cost labor markets will be increasing, ironically as their work forces organize. Ours is heading in the other direction.

Theoretically they will meet in the middle. The middle will be well below what Americans have become accustomed to

This is what folks like "Igor" and other self annointed "intellectuals" like him/her fail or refuse to grasp.

So if your wish "Igor" was to appear intellectually superior to the "Sikorsky Worker" you have failed miserably.

It's not the "Sikorsky Worker" who appears as the idiot in your excange.

Just saying.

Keep following the rest of the sheep blaming Unions for Americas problems...follow along with the brainwashing the media and politicians are feeding you.
Over a million minimum wage workers were FORCED to go to work this year on Thanksgiving due to more corporate greed because they were not unionized. Keep shopping at WalMart, Home Depot and all of the other big box stores that sell all the cheap Chinese CRAP because the Republicans AND DEMOCRATS sold out America with NAFTA and GAT so these corporate giants could shovel more money in their pockets and screw the middle class. "Oh it's the Unions fault"...BULL$4!+ it is...it's the politicians and the greedy corporate giants that who bought them off, that's whose fault it is. And it's probably your fault!!!
How many American small business' have been destroyed by these Corporate Giants? Lumber yards, Hardware stores, Grocery stores and Pharmacy's??? All owened by people who were trying to support their families. But IDIOTS like you flocked to the Home Depots, Walgreens and the like and now there aren't any places to buy decent hardware or a straight piece of lumber. Go to Walgreens or CVS and try to ask a Pharmacist a question, I dare you.
I'm not saying their aren't any abuses by Unions or individual workers, there are azzholes everywhere. Want to see one LOOK IN THE MIRROR you ignorant fool.
BTW, you freedom is being protected by our brave American fighting men and women flying in UNION MADE AIRCRAFT using UNION MADE GUNS so suck on that a while.

Ummmm Sol, it's on the end of all of our noses.

Some just can't smell it.

Draw a deep breath.... There got it?

It's the smell of the decline of the American standard of living.

Welcome to a "globalized" world where all societies are equally miserable. And only the very few who capitalize on the misery of others prosper.

The good news is that eventually even the fools among us will recognize the smell and then do something about it.

Otherwise, keep jabbing fun at the unions. They have historically gotten a bad reputation but in this fight, they are on the correct side. Unfortunately we are all victims of the "low price" mentality like the Sikorsky guy says.

But that "low price" comes with a very high eventual and overall cost.

Until then. Support your local small business people and buy American when you can.

i don't get any of those things as an independent contractor.
at one time unions had a value in america but not now.
why should someone get $30 an hour to push a broom?
why shold 500 UNION workers be allowed to destroy the jobs of 13,000 other workers as in the hostess problem?
why should a person not be fired if they are not doing their job?
UNIONS are one of the reason why america has lost so many jobs......business wants to make a PROFIT but the stranglehold of the unions forces jobs to be out sourced and prices to go up.

get off the union teet my friend, and see what it's like to work in the real world where performance and accountability count.

First, I don't know anyone who gets $30.00 yo push a broom, Union or not. Secondly, if you don't do your job you do get fired at Sikorsky...and yes I have seen alot of people escorted out of the plant for "cause"- I say good riddens to them, most of us Union workers do not want to end up like AVCO! Third, do you really think 500 Union workers had the power to bring down Hostess? It was planned by upper management to close down the operation (evidenced by the CEO's tripling of "salary" in the past few years. The labor action was more about the pensions and pension contributions that were STOLEN by the Hostess company. While a business deserves to make a profit, is it OK to have upper executives and CEO's making hundreds of thousands and in some cases million per year and not provide employees a living wage? The anti-union backlash is due to Americans being brainwashed against labor unions for the past 20-30 years by the exact same people who are ruining this country and most of the things I hear quoted are simply propaganda spewed out by the same people that pushed for free trade and sent all of our jobs to Asia in the name of higher profits. It is pure GREED my friend and while not perfect, whether you like it or not Labor Unions protect some of us American workers from some of it. As far as getting off the Union teat and seeing what it's like to work...I spent 23 years in the United States Marine Corp as an Infantryman my friend and I can assure you I didn't even make minimum wage while I was downrange in places like Kosovo, Iraq and Afganistan and I worked plenty hard and performance and accountability counted as life and death...no complaints here, I was proud to do it! Performance and accountability also mean life and death at my current job, WE BUILD THE BEST, SAFEST AND MOST RELIABLE HELICOPTERS IN THE WORLD with Union labor. I'm done, I'm wasting a vacation day expanding on the obvious.

I'd like to read an honest telling of the story from both sides.... I'm suspicious of the sacbee version because it sounds ultra lib, but I for one didn't know the ceo and board of trustees were raiding the company.
I hold my nose every morning and read the NYTimes, because I'm a huge fan of David Brooks (even though he is not a conservative).
I'd love to read what he has to say on it.

I don't agree with Chuck, I think most companies are still headed by very dedicated people. It is truly disgusting how many companies are being raided by the baby boomer CEOs. What a selfish generation- my generation.

you've made some good points, corporate greed certainly is a factor in EVERYTHING. however paying benefits to people long after they retired and possibly longer than they actually worked does not help the bottom line for any of us.

Fact ..The industry average for someone in the bakers union(non Hostess employee) is 12.50 per hour. Hostess employees in this catagory were being paid 16.00 to 18.00 per hour..You can talk about greed all you want but you can't sustain a business when your competition is beating your labor rate to the tune of 35%..We thank you for your service, but realize you work for a company that primarily sells to GOVERNMENTS; They print their own money. They don't care how much it costs and by extention don't care how much you cost..This isn't the reality of an economy. It's subsidised sloth.Aprivate business selling to other private businesses or the public for the majority of it's product line wouldn't survive 3 years with the Defense industries model of subsidized manufacturing. Enjoy your position and product but never think the process is tranferrable to the real world of commerce..
