why do we keep spending money in Devon. The homeowners 1 block behind this area have let their homes look like trash for decades. One has even had the Tyvek insulation sit uncovered for over 10 years, another has a sign posted they don't call 911 they shoot instead. The other problem is the waste of tax payer dollars in an area where a church is operating as the prenier land owner and business operator. No return there. Why is a church tax exampt when they are runnign a card shop and renting commerical buildings when anyone else has to pay taxes on straight forward business ventures.Until we some return and some respect for properties in the ommediate Devon area we are throwing good money after bad.

Throwing money away it's right, that's a honky town white trash, put that money on creating homes for the elderly or people with low income that can better their living conditions.

the committee should be accountable for the way they spend (waste) the money. For all the money thatwas spent on "Devon" the place still looks like a dump.

I would like to take a moment to touch base with your comments...first to justsayno - There have been improvements in Devon inclusive of new and viable businesses bringing in new tax revenues, this is a real plus. If you would come with me to the Mayor's office we can see what the city can do about uncovered house, etc. If you are actually concerned about Devon I would like the opportunity to work with you.
Carl - I resent your comments as someone that has been living in Devon for a number of years. Devon has been a more affordable section of Milford for someone like myself to buy a home and raise my children. I take great pride in my accomplishments and I consider buying a home for my sons and I as such.
johnson - Devon Revitalization is accountable for every penny they spend. They have to answer to the Governor's office.
All of you please go to the Devon Revitalizaiton meetings...they are generally the second Thursday of each month at the Margaret Egan Center...speak directly to the committee members about your concerns.

So Don't even think you can justify

installing planters, benches, decorative lamps and commemorative paving stones at that cost.

Layoffs, givebacks, possible not hiring more police.......planters

The planter arms, etc. are choices that the Devon Revitalization committee chose as ways to increase the appeal of Devon with the hope this will help bring more businesses and residents to Devon. These are small tangible items in the larger scheme of things. I see what you are saying and I can only hope that they plans that the Devon Revitalization committee have laid forth will help bring about more jobs and success for Devon.

Oh Ms Seltzer you are better suited to being a doorman at the Bridgeport Flyer Dinner than you are to objectively comment on the business development in Devon.Name me one new successful business in Devon please that is not owned by the church that we foolishly sold schools and commercial buildings to in such a large quantity.Planters in Devon center will become urinals for the oldest business down there the dump bar called the Star.Crime rates are higher there. The oldest most enduring business'are long gone or scaled down to a shadow of what they were.I also notice you have no comment about the homeowners in the immediate vicinity that have let their homes go to trash for decades. When they pony up to clean their eyesores we should think about revitalizing Devon but until they do this is a pure waste of tax dollars.
They have whined for decades about their poor cousin status in Milford but I defy you to drive within 1 block of the center of Devon and show me 10 properties that have been improved rather than trashed .You simply can't do it.

Well Just...Are you saying that the M-Bellish and Bridge House are not good examples of new businesses thriving in Devon? Each of those businesses are owned by people and not by any church. How about Belair Auto, that has grown in size since coming to Devon, also not a business owned by a church? What business is owned by a church in Devon? Imperia Furniture has been in Devon for many, many years, also not owned by a church. I am not a business owner in Devon, in fact I work in Greenwich...and by the way HONEY...I am not a man. Maybe you need to get to a doctor of some sort.

Nanci funny how you are a huge advocate for wasting money on clocks and pavers but spend your time alleging that education is a waste of money. No wonder you were trounced in your recent run for office. You over developed Milford as a member of the P & Z and now you are willing to dole out money to improve the church's property. Neither you or you son have a clue and should just disappear!

How about Kingdom life owns 25 properties in Devon! How about you know what you are talking about. You are clueless and make a clown of yourself when you speak at meetings. You bring nothing to the table and what is happening in Devon is laughable. Neither you, Garbus or Dichkus have any idea what you are doing.

You're not a man? Had me fooled, most of the businesses in Devon look like hell! Should our tax dollars pay to make improvements to Belair or Red Arrow or the other dumps in Devon?

How about a park with 2 parking spaces. One is used by the bridge tender. How was that a smart use of public money. The only thing dumber is trying to turn Walnut beach into a art center. I have been to Rockport, MA. I have walked Bearskin Neck. That is an artist colony. What you have in Walnut beach is another waste of taxpayer's money!

I guess you can say Jim Amman left office just in time. It is this type of wasteful spending that has Ct. in the fix their in. Can you say "Earmarks". Planter's, Oz like pavers, a musical clock, turn of the century lamp posts, what next granite curbs?

Imperial furniture is one of the business'that I was thinking of when I said "scaled down"and as for the new eatery you refer to ?A 50% fail rate in that industry and that is in good times. You have no facts to base your argument.Just just imagine a viable Devon with office buildings and people working there instead of commuting to Greenwich to work.As for you being a man?The designation MS. normally denote a person of the female gender. The more you speak to more we see how biased you are. Please take your single mother story and peddle it elesewhere.Your literally one in millions and quite frankly it is getting quite tiresome. When I see Devon ,the beaches in that area where Mr Ditchus is a slum lord and the ridiculous amont of property owned by a church it all adds up to years of neglect by it's own residents. This is the proverbial silk's purse from a sow's ear money pit for the rest of us in Milford The money needs to go to education or to reduce property taxes.

Amen, Justsayno. We have been listening to her for years. She is the most negative person we have. She was a terrible enabler of Smith/Craft and as a P & Z member ruined too many neighborhoods to count. As a matter of fact this board that started so well is now bogged down in approving one over developed project after another. Their vow to maintain our neighborhoods is now out the window. As long as our City Scheamer speaks in favor of a project they can't approve it fast enough. In my opinion the board just rubber stamps what he tells them too. His tirades on TV with individual home owners who he bullies is reprehensible!

Joe...is there any reason you feel the need to attack my son???????? You are the ultimate of slime in Milford!!!! You are typical of the bullies that have been parading in Devon. Why not post your correct, full name if you are not afraid of true confrontation. You must fit in well with the others I know. As far as your other comments about my votes...you have made erroneous statements.

a lot of back and forth here but one point that was touched on and really should be considered more thoroughly and that is the properties owned by Ditchkus. If you go down a few homes on the right of Naugatuck from the back, there's a two family brown house they own which is an eyesore. Talk about the need to revitalize!

So, while Libby and son Vinny are active members of the community, they seem all too willing to spend state grant money on silly things like clock towers (what a waste!) and then leave the very homes they own in complete disrepair. Shameful.

Do you mean Vinny the parrot? Now that the meetings are televised can you believe how he repeats what the Mayor says. Does he thing his Mayor is incoherent? The mayor will make a statement or answer a question and Vinny the Parrot will repeat it! Often starting "Do you mean". It is hysterical. I have to say most of the Republican Alderman and women are smart and concerned citizens but he is pathetic!

Nanci have you ever noticed how those at meetings roll their eyes when you get up to speak? You should change you last name to Negative! By the way was that a threat you made to Alderman Vitelli? The man spent 40 years in education and understands when there is a set-up. Lisman's and Ritchelli's appointed finance board slashed the education budget out of political gamesmanship, wanting the alderman to restore some money. This was so the Republicans can say to them I thought you ran on no increase platform and then you restore 1-mil. It no longer mattered that it was the smallest budget increase years, just that they could pin that tail on them.

Joeh - I think you have a point there. The BOE produced a very tight budget, which included money required by contract to pay teachers their arbitrated rate. Even with that, the BOE came out with a 2.47% increase. On the City side, the Mayor has 6 million in new spending and, despite the fact that he's getting some concessions from the unions (albeit quite late in the process)- his budget is still 6 million in new spending. Sanitation workers make more than our teachers.

The Mayor is paying for some of his increases by digging into city accounts and taking money out. I wonder why Republicans are so opposed to education and yet are completely silent on the Mayor's six million dollar spending spree.

Now some might argue (not me of course) that Republicans are opposed to education because they know if people get an education they are more likely to vote Democrat.(there is actually data to support that contention).
