IT'S SEAVIEW AVENUE! NOT SEASIDE AVENUE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE OR COPY EDITORS. THE OTHER DAY TONY SPINELLI HAS THE NEW COMMUNICATIONS CENTER ON PEQUONNOCK STREET IN THE SOUTH END. THE LOCATION WAS ON HOUSATONIC AVENUE OUTSIDE OF THE NORTHERN PART OF DOWNTOWN. PEQUONNOCK STREET IS IN THE HOLLOW. VERY SLOPPY WORK!

The city wants it's cake and eat it too.

Sure, sell pleasure beach for a few million and let other tax payers set up another seaside park for you.

How obnoxious you democrats are.

If the federal government buys the land for a nature preserve, then that is how it should stay.

We do not need another place for needles, broken glass, and spent condoms to be lying around in the middle of your cookout.

The refuge idea sounds great. That is not "shutting out the people".

If Bridgeport residents want another seaside park, KEEP IT, DON'T SELL IT, AND SPEND YOUR OWN MONEY FIXING IT UP. After all, that's what money collected for park stickers is for, RIGHT MR. FINCH?

This will never happen,if the city couldn't guarantee fire and ambulance service there when they evicted those people living in their cottages, how will it handle it now?..until a new bridge is built, that land is worthless. The type of people living in that neighborhood don't need a bird watching spot, they need a place to go for the day, swim, cookout, frolic around.

Here's an idea, sell that land to steve wynn or trump, let them develop it right without the interfernce of gov't,make it a destination.

Emily you are so right with one exception. Spinelli was calling it Pequonnock Avenue in his article. He's been around this city for years. A mistake like that is inexcusable.

However, the Post writers have become so careless in their factual reporting that the CT Post is a joke.

I have told their parent company that but they don't care.

Stop buying the printed version as many of my family and friends have done. You gotta hit them where it hurts.

This has been going on for a number of years and it's getting worse. There is no pride of workmanship and Bob Laska continues to get awards. You have to wonder who's doing the awarding!

And the other day they had a poor deceased perons's first name listed as her last name on the obituary page.

At other times, they have put a female's picture with a male's obituary.

They are really something! I would be embarrassed to work there.

Everyone officials included keep saying that we need a new bridge to pleasure beach. Why? has anyone actually looked at what is mechanically wrong with the bridge? the answer to that question is no. the fire damaged the wood decking which can easily be replaced. if there are mechanical parts to the bridge that need replacing then do it. if these mechanical pieces are no longer made i am sure they can be fabricated at a marine oriented machine shop. i know that will be expensive but it will be a heck of a lot cheaper than building a new bridge. i believe the fire was just a political excuse not to reopen pleasure beach and to stop complaints about its upkeep, BTW tha fire was intentional and not caused by a cigarette.

Hey Trumbull Resident, why don't you go and start your own paper and put it out every day 365 days a year year after year and see how many mistakes you make. I suppose you're perfect and would never ever make a mistake.

It's so easy to criticize. If you can do it better -- then go do it! Otherwise, find your news somewhere else!

this approach makes a lot of sense. if it is fixable, fix it. if not replace it. why can this state spend $150M on a science center in hartford as a 'tourist attraction' and they can't find even $30M to address this.

while you're at it, let's throw in the congress st. bridge. that has been out for over 10 years. no state money for that either. this should be totally unacceptable to anyone with ties to bpt. sell the headache airport to stratford and fix the bridges.

what good is a newspaper that gives bad information? noone is perfect but the post doesn't go out of its ways to admit these errors. these corrections would not be necessary if someone did some PROOFREADING. if errors are pointed out, they should be corrected immediately and acknowledged so that the poor slob who is looking for the communications center on pequonnock st. knows to go over to housatonic avenue instead. this kind of misinformation just asks for trouble.

Rebuild the bridge, clean up the place and give it back to the people. The city should be ashamed of itself for letting the place go to waste.

It seems the towns want to sell the properties to get the money. I doubt they are willing to spend town/city money to make a new recreation area. If people want a recreation area, they should see if the National Park Service wants the property. If the USFWS is the only agency interested in buying it, then you're stuck with how they want to regulate the lands use. At least there will still be public access.

You said the magic word:'hartford'.

As for the airport, from what I remember (speaking with those who were 'in the know' at that time), bridgeport acquiring the airport property wasn't so much a matter of 'buy/sell' as it was 'we want this'…

Actually, Mollison Field (née Avon Field) was 'bought' in 1936 or 1937 - and most of those involved in the deal were still hale in the late 1960's...

he said it was the airport that was purchased by bpt in 1936 or 1937. wikipedia says 1937. the pleasure beach bridge, according to wikipedia, was built in 1919.
