And they sued for what? Why?? To compensate for what??? Is this law suit for real?? What does that family want to be compensated for?? I just don't understand some of the people in the world we live...It seems that lawsuits are built on anything these days..Shame on the city for paying this!!!! But maybe the family will buy books and things for the school the kid had attended.. Yeah, right!

And the school is at fault because the parents didn't make sure their kid got in school... it isn't like she walked out of class and the teachers watched... I just don't get it..

I do feel for the family, but a lost suit can't correct that

what a country,we blame someone else for our mistakes and get pay for it,i cant see the school board paying this kind of money, the familys interest is more into the money tham to find this little girl, they should take the money every year and raise the posibility in finding her by giving the money as a recompensen,to some one gives enouth information in her where abouts, that will show the love and not the interest they had for the little gilr.

This piece of news has been very upsetting for me. I'm a single parent of a 14 year old daughter and can not imagine the thought of this happening to my family. I cannot believe how an adult teacher could mark this young innocent child absent and not report it to the authorities and make a call to her parents. This act was very irresponsible of him and should have been reprimanded. I still have Bianca's photo when this happened in 2001 and I pray of her and her family. I pray that she comes home safe to her family. What about the man that she supposedly left with that day? Is he also missing? God Bless you all!

The "City" just opened a can of worms. How can any loving parent declare their child dead so they could file suit. If this tragedy had happened in my family we would never want to believe our child dead.

You don't get it!! The teacher never saw the child. This happened before school began. The teacher just saw that the student was absent. When other students told the teacher they saw her, it was reported!! Don't just assume you know the whole story!

You being a responsible parent would not have to worry. This child was allowed by accounts of her relatives at 11..yes... 11 years old to go out with an 18 yo. The parents did not report her missing till 10 pm that night.Give me a break they seem to care more about getting some money by declaring their daughter dead then continuing to look for her.

I never recall reading anything during this long tragedy, about the actions of the teacher that particular morning until just now in this article. Doesn't smell right.

If my children are absent from school, I have always received a call from the school indicating such.

I remember reading she ran to the teacher who was outside and said she was leaving with her Uncle, she never went inside the school. Her friends saw her getting into a van..She knew who she was going with.

I would say Ava is correct too!

Does anyone know what the backgound of this girl and family involve?

Someone should do a background check so that the family can be deemed innocent or contributory. We can then end the speculation.

I am not going to comment on the family as anything I say would not be nice, they are supposed to know a lot more than anyone knows, let me ask you this would you settle for 750,000..there is not enough money in the world for your child!

Unfortunetly, it's 750,000. Who in their right mind would agree to take(make) money for a tragedy? They will make some kind of tv show about it next...

I do not believe the child is dead.
What I do believe is that the Family did do this on purpose and they know where the Child is. The Family just let time go by, so they could collect money on this. I would say the Teacher is in on it also! How come all of the Families out there in the world, with missing Children don't sue. Think about it!
