A dog who attacks people or other animals crosses a line into unaceptable
social behavior. I have great faith that Animal Control Officers do not make
the decision lightly that a dog must be put down. A dog owner accepts the responibilty to socialize and control their pets. I do not think that a 5 year old child can be blamed for the attack. This girl has many things to overcome, I hope that one day she will learn to love and care for a dog of her own. Dogs can bring much joy to the familes who care for them. The saying that "There are no bad dogs, just bad owners" applies here.

What? We are talking about an animal here. A dog bitting is a normal animal behavior that should be expected at any time. keep letting your kids play with dogs Mackey and we will be commenting about it soon.

with his attitude, it sounds like it might be wise to euthanize the pit bulls owner as well...what a jerk!

I pray the little girl (who can't be blamed for the attack) makes as full a recovery as possible.

This shows that there is a need for more Chinese Food Stores in Stratford. I rather eat the dogs before the dogs eat my daughter. Rogers should have moved next to Jefrey Dahmer and so we could see or hear how he feels when jeff eats his daughter.

This is a bad situation and if the dog crossed the line, and in this case he did, putting him down was most likely the only solution. I have to say I have a pit-mix dog and he is gentle and seems to ask permission to step off the stoop. Pits are smart, if trained bad they can act badly.

Rogers, get a grip. You were wrong, an innocent little girl was mauled and you don't seem to care. You're lucky there aren't crimminal charges filed against you. The Stern's should sue you and you should pay for the trauma that little girl is enduring. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!

You HEARD?You HEARD?You HEARD? Rumors are hurtfull and usually inaccurate. Stop blaming the parents and put the blame where it belongs. THE DOG OWNER.

I never imagined I would hear of a BIGGER a-hole than the owner of the dog who attacked MINE (almost killed it, to the tune of 5 Gs) and severely bit my husband, as well, but there he is, living in Stratford.

Another case of "Too bad they couldn't keep the DOG and euthanize the OWNER."

Rogers, you're a friggin' moron. What if your dog had KILLED that child? It doesn't MATTER whether the dog ever bit anyone before. He did THIS time. There's no "three bites and you're out" law for dogs.

Keep your friggin' dog in your own damned YARD, where it can attack, maim or kill your OWN family!

This type of dog is not the breed you want when you have children. And it sounds like the is plendy of blame to go around here. The girl was throwing rocks and stuff at the dog previous to the attack? A dog will remember this. And what is a five year old doing playing over at a 13 year olds house anyway? As far as a lawsuit, you know its coming. Just as they claim the Rogers family cared more about the dog, now they will care more about money. Crazy world we live in.

No, honestly, they're really not. ANY dog breed can, and has, attacked and killed at some time. Googel "dog bite statistics" and see what you come up with. Heck, even a dachshund has killed, absurd as it sounds.

But sadly, too many pit OWNERS are negligent, inconsiderate morons who care only about themselves and feel that they need to boost their pathetically lacking manliness by owning a "macho" dog breed and keeping it unneutered and unrestrained as well.

The only recourse cities usually have is to euthanize the dog, which teaches the owner NOTHING, except that he can get away with it. If we start forcing them - BY LAW - to come across with serious amounts of cash when this happens, they'll learn.

The problem is that most of them don't have a pot to piss in, and manage to skate away unscathed, physically and financially.

First of all, please STOP THE STIGMA THAT ALL PITBULLS ARE BAD DOGS. How ignorant people can be! It's only because the media only tells the "bad" stories about this breed. You don't hear about the "poodle" that mauled someone, do you? Of course not! The media only looks for the "juicy" stories and pitbulls have a bad name. There are more "good" pitbulls than there are bad ones. There are more pitbulls that have made wonderful pets than bad ones-- and the bad ones always have a reason for being bad, many times humans are that reason. Besides being abandoned, many come into shelters from horrible situations that HUMANS have put them through. They had a horrible start to life, not by their own doing.

What is a kid throwing rocks at an animal for?? That's not right. People need to teach kids to respect animals, NOT TO THROW ROCKS AND MISTREAT THEM. Animals do not forget when they are mistreated.
