BRIDGEPORT-One of the state’s richest communities helped one of its poorest to make roads safer following Thursday’s snow storm.
Greenwich loaned Bridgeport 130 tons of salt which the Park City sprinkled over its roads Friday.
“I want to personally thank First Selectman Peter Tesei and the town of Greenwich,” Mayor Bill Finch said.“Regular cooperation between towns in Farifield county really paid off overnight.”
Finch also credited U.S. Rep. Jim Himes for helping broker the deal.
The road salt which is in big demand in snow-struck Connecticut was picked up by city trucks around midnight.
Meanwhile Gov. Dannel P. Malloy requested an emergency disaster declaration from President Barack Obama to address the road salt shortage.
“These consecutive, long-duration events have challenged the resources of towns throughout Connecticut, in terms of stretched budgets and inventory of salt to treat road systems,” the governor said.
They’ll be stretched even further with forecasts of more snow Saturday.
