Sgt Pasquale Feola has been put on paid administrative duty and officer Paul Cari was arrested following separate allegations of assault.

Fairfield police are investigating a woman’s complaint that Feola sexually assaulted her in Fairfield while Cari was charged following a fight with his former girlfriend’s new boyfriend, police said.

Suspend them with full pay, then let them retire with full benefits, it's the American way.

BRIDGEPORT -- One city police officer has been arrested and another on desk duty in separate assault cases.

Sgt. Pasquale Feola, a 10-year veteran of the force, has been put on paid administrative duty after a woman filed a complaint about his behavior after being pulled over for a traffic stop.

"He is on paid administrative duty pending an ongoing internal affairs investigation," said Police Department Spokesman Bill Kaempffer.

Police sources said Feola, a decorated former K-9 cop, is under investigation by Fairfield police. Fairfield police did not immediately comment on the allegations against Feola.

In an unrelated incident, Paul Cari, 43, a member of the police force since October 2011, was charged Wednesday with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and second-degree threatening.

Police said Cari had gone to his former girlfriend's Sage Avenue home to get some of his belongings when he saw she was entertaining a new male friend.

During a subsequent confrontation, the other man claimed Cari punched him repeatedly in the face and hit him in the head with a vase, police said.

When the ex-girlfriend tried to intercede, police said Cari shoved her. Police said a neighbor witnessed the confrontation.

Cari contended he hit the other man in self-defense, police said.

He was released after posting $5,000 bond and was placed on administrative duty pending further Police Department investigation.
