I work a part-time job. I work when I'm off duty.
What is the savings to the town as opposed to working a road job as a cop? The town can't collect $20.00 an hour when I'm working there.
The difference is I don't carry my gun at my part-time job and can drive by every accident, disturbance or criminal activity I should encounter.

Ok, you can find a spelling error but you cant find the facts. Again, go get the facts before you get on here with your nonsense.

It appears that my moniker has been stolen...oh well, its a free country. Just know that the real Judge is a proud supporter of getting cops off the roads as flagmen and into their cars doing real patrol work!!
Road jobs do not take officers off patrol duty. They are filled by OFF DUTY officers. So if you think about it, the town actually benefits by getting the presence of more officers on busy thoroughfares who would otherwise be pursuing other interests on their time off. So "getting the cops off the road as flagmen" won't translate to more cops "doing real patrol work". Depending on the town, in many cases the rate for road jobs is considerably LESS than shift O/T thereby negating a possible arguement that road work takes away from the dept staffing needs.
But the main reason I prefer a police officer over a flagger on my worksite is SAFETY.

I say I could care less if you do away with the Cops on Roadjobs....They way I look at it, why would you wanna be a cop anyway making 60,000/yr with no overtime when you can get a job a Outback and embezzel 30 grand twice a yr and make the same. Hell, at least at Outback you dont have to worry about gettting shot, or hit by a car or fighting some lunatic high on drugs..We all know Outback has at least one opening. Besides, why would anyone want to work for a dictator like Fidel Moron. Get your apps in now...you can even take home leftover cheesy fries...Right Brooke

Coming from New York, and having served in law enforcement there, NY has always had paid flagmen/women on roads while repairs take place. Personally, I don't understand the debate...when road work is going on, motor vehicles almost always slow down because the road is usually blocked by large utility vehicles. Doesn't matter if it's a uniformed cop or a flagperson standing there. Traffic slows down. And if a study on the subject was to be conducted, it would probably conclude that people are more likely to reduce speed upon seeing someone waving a big orange flag and wearing an orange vest. I don't think it really matters that they have a badge on or not.
Worked in law enforcemnt. Thats a pretty open remark. Obviously you were not a cop.

Public service is not about lining your pockets with money.
It seems to us soccer moms that all the police and fire unions are concerned with is money.
Weel "soccer mom" the next time you call for help because your world is falling apart or you can't control your little brats dont call the police or the fire dept. OT is one of the few benefits cops and firement get in their jobs. I challenge anyone on this board to do the job they do for their base pay. You wouldn't last 5 years. Here is an idea. Istead of just kicking cops out how about allowing them to continue to work the jobs at the same rate as flagmen. Im sure they would take that instead of nothing.

You talk like cops dont live and pay taxes in Stratford. When you sign on as a police officer you are promised overtime as a benfit for doing a hard job. If you people think this is going to be helpfull think again. See how proactive your demoralized officers are going to be. See how hard they work for you now and how long they take to get to your house. Citizens in this state are spoiled rotten when it comes to police service. You think cops dont do enough for you now? Wait unitl you see what the bare minimum really means. The only thing they have to do at work is answer a radio. Everything else is proactive, and you cant make them do that.
