What did we pave strees and make sidewalks with before the then cheap and easier Asphalt??? Yea, CONCRETE!!!! It is about time everyone thinks in the same manner. If OIL is high that means everything made from it will be more expensive. Now why doesn't the City and State decide to once again make our highways out of CONCRETE?? It does not form ruts from the 18-wheelers which can cause accidents in the winter and pools of water after rains storms for vehicles to slide on. It doesn't have to be repaved every three years if they use the correct mixture for long life. And we have it here in the US, so the cost will be less in the long run. Money to make a concrete road STAYS in the US?? I'm sorry if O&G and others will lose out on this money making material, but they are orginally a concrete supplier and asphalt came later. Concrete does not melt; does not let ruts develope from heat and heavy vehicles; lasts way longer than asphalt; and can be recycled which is supposed to be done in CT, but is not as there is no money in recycling and reusing old materials; and can be repaired and not float or disappear as asphalt is when CHEAP patch jobs are made and the municipalities do not enforce companies to repair what they dug correctly. Look at the road by Auto Zone and I dare anyone to say the POLICE and other city officials have not dodged the tank trap holes the contractors made. The same goes for the cheap patch job on the E.Main & Myrtle intersection, they just piled a load of asphalt high and wait for the vehicles to flatten it down. Then you go to the patch job across from AAMCO and it is the same, a cheap repair job just to met basic city requirements. If they had to repair with concrete, yes there would/will be delays but the road would last and less delays when needed followup repairs are needed. If people want instant travel, take the train; move a bit slower, be nice to the next driver, and you'll get home safer and calmer.

Everything looks good in the mayors neighborhood.
The round about is planted and looks tiday.
The speed bumps are in (sometimes in and then out!) and the trees are trimmed.
Politics are very local in Stamford and Dan excels with the doling out of public funds for personal gain.

Graph the price of asphalt over a fifteen year period.
Graph the mayors salary over the same period, and do not forget the perks (SUV,travel, house remodel).
Now,graph YOUR salary over the same period.

We are actually getting curbing done on my street right now and it is coming along really nicely! I am thinking about maybe getting some asphalt placed on the side of our house to store our boat! It will be nice not having to keep it at our friends house anymore.
