Trumbull confronts tax hike - The Connecticut Post Online

Blame it on a basically flat grand list, that means there is virtually no new taxable property. Full Story

My check from uncle sam is getting hard to live on. Mr. Baldwin, must I put you over my knee and give you a good lickin?
I can't pay my taxes anymore because my medications are too expensive.
Do you want grandma to move from the only home she has ever known?

Its now at the point where we can no longer rely on elected officials to safeguard the interests of the public. An 11.6% tax hike is unconscionable.

We need to revise our charter and institute a budget referendum. The people will keep spending in check for sure!

I can't believe that first selectman Baldwin would put forth an 11.65% budget increase in view of the subprime issue and the slow down in the economy. The grand list may be flat but it should be down given the reduction in housing prices over the last year. What happens at the next revaluation-will he ask for a 25% increase in taxes. Have politicans and school officals ever heard of cutting costs and budgets?

Find out who is getting the kick-backs.

Then you'll know why there is an increase.

Why don't they cut his salary 11.6% and start balancing the budget from there.

I grew up in this town, and I can't believe how much it has become an UNFRIENDLY town for younger families to live here after the cost of homes and taxes. They are also pushing out the seniors who worked their whole lives to retire in the home they worked their butts off all those years to retire in.You mean to tell me that with all the "affordable housing" complexes and office buildings and stores (i.e. the new Big Y & Target) they (the town of Trumbull & P & Z)approve to be built here they still don't have enough money???? That we the taxpayers have to shell out the money? How about we stop hiring the big shows here at indian ledge (that the town loses money on every year!!) they put that money towards the town???? It's a complete joke and I am ashamed to say that I grew up in this money hungry town.

But Boss Hog Baldwin LIKES to sing with the Beach Boys...can't cut that out.

For all you democrats who voted for this a$$$hole, what did you expect? That he was going to cut taxes? Stop complaining-you got exactly what you voted for.

The question you need to ask is why if spending is "only" increasing 6.8% why is a tax increase of 11%+ needed? Couldn't have anything to do with Ray and his pet finance director playing fast and loose in an election year, could it? Perhaps its time for the feds to take a closer look at this rotten administration, starting with the infamous Baldwin "Friends and Family" full employment program.

Why would you make the Economic Development Director's postion a full time position? The Planning & Zoning Board does not like development and have gotten the reputation for being against development at the hands of its leader.

Let's get on board and demonstrate that responsible development can be achieved in Trumbull! You have driven people away who are capable of increasing your tax base with responsible development. There comes a point where you make it so costly for those who might have a plan to do business with you that they don't even bother. And Monroe is getting the same reputation.

When you ask why Shelton seems to be able to keep their taxes affordable, it is because the boards are very user friendly and attempt to help developers with a responsible paln rather than stonewalling them in a self-serving effort to ensure everyone knows just how powerful they are like they do in Trumbull.

Mr. Baldwin, Trumbull politics are out of control. You seem to be led around by people who should not work there.
Let's clean it up.
