(CNN)- Fast food restaurants are lobbying to accept food stamps.
The government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) reportedly handed out more than $64 billion in aid to qualifying families last year. Much of it went to grocery stores, dollar stores, pharmacies and gas stations.
Now, fast food restaurants want in on the business opportunity.
Only four states have taken advantage of a clause that allows restaurants to serve prepared food to SNAP recipients who are disabled, elderly or homeless.
Some health advocates are against expanding the program amid concerns that food stamp recipients won't get the proper nutrition they need.

i am not concerned if they get the proper nutrition, what i am concerned about is the fact a lot of people who get off their butt everyday and go to work can't afford to eat in resterants but these lazy, good for nothing people living on our dime can eat out. the government doesn't tell them what to buy with their food stamps for nutritional value, they buy soda, chips, candy bars, and fresh hambutger for their pets. some even sell their stamps to feed their other habits such as smoking, drinking, and drugs. i am sick and tired of paying for these people to live off the sweat of good hard working people. i realize that there are some who actually do need help and use these benefits properly, to those i say it's ok, i have no problem with that. i am talking about the ones who keep having kids so they don't have to work and just whore around supporting boyfriends and husbands who refuse to work to support their families. i realize that the only ones who will respond negatively are those lazy low lifes who are abusing the system, and to those i say "GET SOME SELF RESPECT, GET OFF YOUR LAZY BUTT AND GET A JOB"

I can't believe that this is even an option. Why can't the recipients buy basics and actually cook nutritious meals that let you get more for your money than eating out. I work my butt off every day and I can't eat out all the time. Sometimes I actually have to cook meals because that is what I can afford to do!

I agree with john. I am tired of working 50+ hours a week to support people who can work but don't and then they get all kinds of assistance like food, medical, and disability checks. A lot of these people have iphones and I can't even afford one of those.

People think they are entitled to whatever they want just because someone else works and has it. Well I say if they want something they need to work and earn money to buy it.

You only have part of the picture, John. There are lots of 'entitled' people at the top of the chain who get lots of high-end freebies continuously. Tons of perks, write-offs, meal perks, travel,'toy', shopping trips, fine dining, theatres, shows, retirement plans/401Ks, and on and on. Their 'jollies' are a way of life and also expected to remain that way. Put them in a low paying, long-hour job, living in very simple conditions, trying to make it and the only fun event for them may be eating some ice cream or goodie from a chain store that accepts food stamps. And they are not about to take any of the blame for the country going belly-up. In my town, a tourist town, most people don't get paid well at all. A cheap night 'out' is to get a few goodies with some food stamps because after all the bills are paid, there's money left.

Food stamps should be governed just like WIC. There should be certain allowed foods and that be IT. No $10 porterhouse. You get chopped steak, hamburger, roast. Stuff that goes far. No Chips. Those are empty calories. The same with snack cakes, candy and soda. If it has NO nutritional value you can't have it. Also, they should be loaded weekly. Some people just do not have the skills to manage their money if you give them that large an amount at once. I have no issue at all with those who need it getting food stamps. It happens and I'm glad the program is there for them, but they should not be able to blow every dime on junk and food is working folks can't afford the day they get them and then spend the rest of the month feeding their kids 10 cent Mac and cheese.

I wish I had food stamps!! I may could then buy more healthy food!! I'd love to get all the veggies I wanted without the hassle of a garden!!
