I am interested in learning about the plans for the relocation of the hundreds of birds of prey and small animals which currently live on the property surrounding the River. Since the tearing down of the trees and the destruction of the property around the river and on the front, I have seen many hawks, Eagle Owls, Eagles and other large birds of prey seeking homes in various non-conventional areas. One of the saddest sights I have seen thus far was an Eagle Owl searching for food at the area Burger King. My cats are coming home with tallon holes in their heads as the hawks attempt to catch them. The tree that help the huge Eagles's nest across the river is no longer there. I have been watching that nest for fifteen years and now it is gone. As a result of the birds leaving the area, dying or seeking out other food sources, the population of racoons, beavers, ground hogs, oppossums, moles, water rats and skunks have boomed in the North Troy area. A couple of weeks ago I heard three shots from the house across from me. Apparently the neighbors called the Troy PD to have an opposum killed as it was acting rabid. My neighbor described it's behavior as odd, it was out during the day and acting very hostile. By the days end, my blood hound had sought out and killed three baby opposums. Was the animal rabid or protecting it's young? I will never know as the Troy PD denied that they brought it to the Dept. of Health for tests therefore the residents of this area are left uninformed and the custodians of orphaned opposums. Where are the animal activists? Where is the Environmental Protection Agency? Who knows. I have called several offices in Rensselaer County to reach nothing but ringing phones. So hooray for building more apartments for people who have no vested interest in this area. Congratulations for the growth of the Riverfront. Personally I am outraged but alas, in this County, there is no one to talk to and no one who answers a phone (including the Mayor who after about 45 rings it just disconnects...)
