Kwanzaa celebration starts
Brinan Weeks of Albany drums during the first day of Kwanzaa celebration at the State Museum on Thursday Dec. 26, 2013 in Colonie, N.Y. The holiday was created in 1966 by Maulana Karenga, professor and chairman of Africana Studies at California State University, Long Beach, to celebrate and promote the African American culture.
