Hymns and prayers emanated from a small church in a hilly part of Hsintic. They said the backyard used to be a part of a Japanese Imperial Air Force airfield that flew kamikaze missions .
But now all attention was on a very frail wheelchair bound lady in her 80's who personally offered a 10,000.00 NT donations for the quake and tsunami victims of Sendai.
This old lady only have a monthly 3000 NT$ stipend from the government which is no match for the cost of the medications for her various ailments.
If not for the missionary nuns who welcomed her in their hospice then she could still be living in the streets today .
Yet she could have been richer and more comfortable if she only simply accepted the two million yen ($17,800) offered from the Asian Women's Fund established in 1995 . But she said she would happily exchange all those money for a sincere Japanese government apology that never came.
So why are you helping the Japanese now? " I felt the pain of the victims especially the octogenarians. Besides, I'm a Christian."
When further pressed by some nosy reporters she said that not all Japanese are bad people.
Did the Japanese government ever felt the pain of the thousands of fast aging 'Comfort Women' like her?
Let us all pray for the present and past victims.
Amen.
