There are many non-denominationl "churches" in the Troy area and you need to be careful in your selection. Too many times I have seen people victimized by the "church of what's happening now" in that their financial gifts and offerings were used to support the "pastor" and his/her materialistic needs. My advice is to first look at denominational churches that have oversight not only on finances but doctrines as well. Listen to the message of the preacher/pastor at the sermon and then look at the congregation to see if they follow through or if it is just lip service.

Hope you find what you are looking for. Remember, the right place may not be the one you are comfortable with, but the one that challenges you to stretch yourself.

Troy Presbyterian Church is a close-knit, loving, faith filled, spiritual congregation, but very small, with not a lot going on for the kids.

I say find the best church for you by trial and error. Go 2 days to one then 2 days to another. Find the one that speaks to you.

Harvester Christian- Troy (formerly Lifepoint) on Front St is a great church! They are non-denominational and they have great programs for both adults and kids. My son attends the camp they have over the summer, also the VBS is really fun, they have several different Sunday school classes and Wednesday night meetings. They just had a coat giveaway a few Saturday's ago (kind of like a yard sale but everything is FREE). They are very involved with helping the community with everything. The pastor and service there is also really great. And the church members are good people! You should really try it out!

Try out the Jedi church. They don't have a doctrine to go by but its a cool alternative.

There is no good church. Read books and think for yourself during the two hours you would waste on a Sunday morning. I suggest anything by Christopher Hitchins or Sam Harris. Your brain will thank you.

Oh yes Calvary is "wonderful" the pastor is a legalistic freak. If you have to leave the sanctuary for any reason you will not be allowed to re enter. Your children will be completely destroyed by a crazy youth program that criticizes them for wanting to date. Or even hug a member of the opposite sex. At least from the front. That church has destroyed as many people as it has saved.
