Heads Up! Better check your Personal property tax bills just mailed out by the Lincoln Co. Collector. The assessment on one of my cars increased, even though it's a year older. The Assessor's office told me their phone is ringing off the hook. I suspect there is a disconnect somewhere and they need to fix it fast! I'll be taking all my papers into the Assessor's Office tomorrow and visiting with the fine folks there.
thanks

Correct....but increased tax rates shouldn't increase the valuation of a vehicle. They increased the value of the vehicle (eventhough it's a year older)...therefore resulting in an inaccurate tax. Personal property normally decreases in value with age.

The valuation of my vehicles went down year over year. The rate of taxation did change and the net effect for me is no change.

Let us know what the assessor's office says in your case.

I'll bet that the method of valuation changed per state taxation commission regulations.

My guess, and it is just a guess is that the method changed from market value to replacement cost. Check to see what your replacement cost is on your insurance to see if it is different from market value.

One last thing....you may want to read the information on the website below
http://www.lincolncoassessor.com/pproperty.ht...

It describes how vehicles are assessed value.

I believe it is used by the Department of mental Health to fund the sheltered workshop on main street, community opportunities, and other services for disabled adults/children in our area.

Assessors office says the Mo. Legislature authorized use of Kelley Blue Book and/or NADA book to determine resale value of a vehicle. In most cases, anyone with a vehicle will be paying higher personal property taxes. So, your car is worth more now then last year!!! Maybe our State Reps can explain the logic?

And next year you will be paying even more. The price of your used car will continue to increase until it is worth more used than it was brand new! That is LC logic.

Wonder if they will use the same technique in accessing manufactured homes. I know that my PPT went up about 18.00 this year and I thought these types of homes depreciated the same with cars. Sounds a little backwards to me.
