Only in Lincoln County can malfeasance and incompetence of public officials be rewarded. What is the matter with you people?

How could you re-elect someone who was caught buying drugs, voted for a budget with a $600K deficit and cannot string two coherent sentences together? Are you unaware or just stupid?

When you elect or re-elect the least among you to public office, your level of competency matches those you voted for. Perhaps you, the voters, cannot put two sentences together?

This proves beyond any doubt the inept and incompetent situation in which Lincoln County now finds itself.Let's see what you have to say when the reserves run out, shall we?

Funny how no one is on here defending this county's choices at the ballot box. I guess that pretty much sums up this county's attitudes. Who gives a sh_t!

I'm guessing that the majority of the "good ole boys" do not want growth or change in Lincoln County. By voting for the least competent candidate they insure that neither will happen.

Yes, I could do much better. But why would I do so for a 75% cut in pay? I have 1 boss, and an elected position has many thousand "bosses" Why would I put up with that crap for $30k a year? Get real...you got the local government you deserve...and the for sale sign went up today.

I've already bought a new house in a community that has a tax base, schools that are extra ordinarily good, local police, fire and ambulance available with full time staffed professionals, a local government in touch with reality and oh yes...a lower property tax rate than Lincoln County.

See ya!

I forgot to add a few more things....a full service professional hospital within minutes, ample shopping and retail that is open when I need it, fine dining, theatre's, culture, a public library, minimal traffic, low crime rate, banks that aren't in trouble with the Fed...the list goes on and on.

After 20 years in Lincoln County, I'm done.

And so it begins, the economic flight back down 61. Reverse migration back to communities where education, quality of life and competency of officials is/are the priorities. This election proves this community is permanently stuck in reverse.

Stupid cannot be fixed and Lincoln County is beyond repair.

First off, I voted for Seely. Second, do any of you know Bass personally? Are you sure that someone can't get off drugs and still be a worthwhile human being. We all have stuff in our past that we don't want anyone to know about, you all just haven't been found out yet. It is disappointing to me that all of the answers to the problems in Lincoln County are right here on Topix but no one will have the benefit of them because you will only share them with each other. You don't want to believe anybody can overcome an addiction they have but we are supposed to believe that you have all of the answers? People run for office knowing that they will have to listen to people standing on the sidelines telling them they know how to do it better or having there lives ridiculed by people that don't even know them. I feel sorry for folks that only know how to complain, it must be a miserable life they lead. You want to pick out a municipality in the middle of 1 million people in St. Louis County and say it is better the Lincoln County. I'm sure the people that live in New York or Chicago would call Ladue a "hick town" by those standards. Everything is relative. You say that you have lived here for 20 years, that means you moved here from someplace else and you knew you were moving to a rural community that did not have all of the amenities of a larger place so how can you blame Lincoln County for not having what you wanted. There must have been something that brought you here instead of Ladue. I would be interested in hearing what you have to say about where you move next because I know you will find something wrong there too. If you think that the people who run those towns don't have personal problems or don't make mistakes in trying to run the local government then you are very naive sir. But I'm sure you will be happy to point them out to them. I wish you much happiness where ever you go. God bless you and please be sure to check in with us once in a while and let us know how you are doing.

Where I come from, elected public officials are held to a HIGHER standard. That is the way it should be. If someone has a personal problem, like a divorce for instance or personal financial hardship, the chances of that interfering in their public/elected job performance is minimal. However that is not what we are talking about in this case.

People who operate a moter vehicle "Under The Influence," risk themselves and others when they drive. A community leader who potentially votes "Under The Influence," does the very same thing.
His or her responsibility includes performing their duty with a CLEAR HEAD and UNDISTORTED VISION. The use or purchase of controlled substances by that individual calls into question the decisions they made on the citizen's behalf.

How do we know that the issues voted upon by the Commissioner were in the best interests of the citizens? Just the possibility that they could have been influenced by the use of a controlled substance calls into question this individual's judgement and ability to serve the public. As a stuggling community facing severe financail hardship, can we really afford this type of leadership?

A straight forward question for you to consider. Would you allow yourself or a member of your family to get into a vehicle with someone potentially "Under The Influence?" Why should we, as a community, elect and re-elect someone who could potentially do harm in decision making about the welfare of Lincoln County? Those decisions influence everything from law enforcement to how the roads are cleaned during winter weather.

And while we are at it, let's talk just a moment about the "quality of life" in Lincoln County. You do know that this past year, Lincoln County was ranked 90th in terms of mortality and morbidity when compared to other Missouri Counties, yes? That means your "quality of life" is better in 89 other counties ahead of us. By the way, this includes our CHILDREN!

Some sobering food for thought for those who like things just as they are........

"I feel sorry for folks that only know how to complain, it must be a miserable life they lead."

Obviously you missed U.S. Government 101 in your education. As taxpayers we have the INHERENT RIGHT to complain about the performance of our government and public officials. That is what representative government is about, just in case you need a review of basic civics and U.S. History.

When Jon Hunt started posting the videos of the incompetent, inept and even illegal performance of the Lincoln County Commission, he was vilified on this BLOG. Funny thing is, he was right!

Accountability for performance in office is NOT a trait found very often in Lincoln County. Excuses are offered, but results are dubious, at best. When public officials fail to perform their due diligence, make competent and informed decisions and fail to understand or recognize the community's future needs, their job performance needs to be publicly reviewed in every venue possible.

Very sobering and disturbing. Could you tell me where I would go to see that information? I would be interested in learning more.

To answer your question, no I would not knowingly put my family at risk with someone under the influence.

Let me ask you this, are you willing to say that someone can over come their addiction? If so because they have had a problem are they permanently disqualified from serving in public office? From what I understand the commissioner has been clean for something like three years. He also speaks in front of groups about the dangers of addiction to pain killers so other people can learn from his mistake and he does admit that it was a mistake.

I have a fellow family member who has overcome an addiction. No, it is not easy and requires the help and love from friends and family. I congratulate anyone who makes the decision to "get sober" and turn things around.

Having said that, a person who served/serves in public office having these issues could have their decisions altered by the very substances of which we speak. That means spending of my tax dollars MAY have been influenced by the use or ingestion of illegal and dangerous substances. It is both right and legitimate to call their decision making into question.

When a public official violates the law, there judgement is called into question. Mind you we are not talking about a speeding ticket, but the very same drug that took the life of Michael Jackson.

Getting "clean and sober" should be celebrated, no argument there. However when that person is a publicly elected official who is responsible the welfare of the community and its residents along with public funds, there are multiple reasons NOT to re-elect that individual.

The videos were posted on YouTube, but I am not sure if they are still available. At any rate, most everyone on this board is aware of them and can verify their existance.

"He also speaks in front of groups about the dangers of addiction to pain killers so other people can learn from his mistake and he does admit that it was a mistake"

Would he readily admit that voting for HUGE budget deficits is a mistake? Failing to grow the community's tax base is a mistake? A person much wiser and better educated than myself once said that,"A mistake is only an error if you fail to correct it." From where I am sitting there have been copious mistakes made here in Lincoln County and few, if any, have been corrected.
