When are we slated to start construction on this overpass? I am tired of hearing serious accidents happening at this intersection. Amazing nobody was killed. Today they are still cleaning up the corn.

Highway 61 and the intersections ARE NOT to blame! It's the stupid drivers! Everyone is ready to blame the road! The road didn't do anything! It's the idiot drivers who 'move to the country' but don't allow more time to make the drive! The drivers who think 'I'll just pull right out in front of these cars and THEY can move over out of my way!' are the ones to blame! I don't care where you grew up or where you live now.... just use common sense when driving and all these stupid accidents will stop! It's better to wait and be alive than to be a fool and dead!

I was told by a friends cousin that it was the Sheriff Departments fault. I knew they had something to do with it.

I'll give you half a credit. Maybe 50 years ago your comment would have been true. This county has grown and among other things the road have not kept up with all the use. When traffic gets tight accidents happen, so it is in the best interest of a community to provide safe roads (not pot hole roads) and overpasses.

So it was a pot hole that caused this accident?
Apparently, you weren't around not too long ago when things were much different on 61.
there have been all kinds of improvements on this stretch of highway over the years.
However, road improvements can fix poor driving skills.

My how soon we forget..........

2005 through July of 2007, 15 fatalities occurred along Hwy 61 from just south of the Lincoln County line to just north of Troy at KK. 5 of these were cross-over accidents and 10 were "at-grade" crossing deaths including the three children killed at 61 and U in July of 2007.

Even with the addition of overpasses at C and U, at least 6 "at-grade" crossings still exist in this area. It is indeed a miracle that no one was killed in this latest accident. No doubt Hwy 61 is still a dangerous road never designed to handle the kind of traffic it now sees.

It is time for outer roads and limited access in order to save lives and promote economic development!

As tragic as they are, human error is to blame in each.
Some people have made driving automatic...so much so, they thing that they can be disengaged and/or distracted without consequence.

while I agree that outer roads and limited access will help save lives and provide the opportunity for economic development, it isn't going to eliminate the required elements for safe driving.
People still crash and die on our metro highways every day and it isn't because of the lack of outer roads and limited access.

* Knowing and obeying the rules of the road
* Practicing defensive driving techniques
* Paying attention without distractions
* Common sense

What were the details of the wreck Thursday night/Friday morning on Sand Run Rd.? Looks like a light pole was replaced and there are car parts all over the cornfield.
