GM has announced a hugh expansion of the Wentzville plant based on approval by union membership. This is great news but let's get on a campaign to attract some of these new workers to Troy. Hey Chamber, how about a billboard or some kind of positive promotion about our town? Where is the leadership and eventually we need to pass planning and zoning so people who come here don't exit at Hwy 47 and see and freakin mobile fish shack on the corner, embarrasing.

Now is the time.....let's do something positive!!!!

While it would be nice to have some kind of dividend from the new Wentzville GM expansion, there is a counter side to that. More people mean more kids in the schools. That means HIGHER taxes to support the schools and other public instituions.

We DO NOT have the commercial/retail/manufacturin g tax base to support an influx of residents. Have we not learned from the past foul-ups, bleeps and blunders of this county's leaders? You think a 30% increase in the operating levy of R-III was high, let's add another 500 or 1000 students over the next couple years and see what happens.

This county and its communities are in NO POSITION to take on ANY new residents WITHOUT an IMMEDIATE and SIGNFICIANT increase in the over-all tax base.

Most of those people will be union and we don't need anymore democratic voting union slobs in LC. Let them live in SCC where their union vote means nothing.

Once again I ask the question. How do you intend to provide teachers, classrooms, roads, fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, new roads, water and sewer lines in a county with an $800K deficit?

Look at the position we are in NOW! We got here because people were AFRAID to lead. Now you want to encourage all these people, like the last 10 years, to come up into LC without basic services? Without a tax base to provide the revenue for said services?

I guess we will just ask the tax payers to buck up another 30% Operating Levy increase.

I understand your point and the deficit. But not encouraging growth will never get us out of trouble. If people move here the theory is that they pay real estate tax, sales tax on what the spend, do business here to help businesses grow and then,in time, we will be able to afford the services mentioned above. It starts with growth. That is why Wentzville has all these services, parks, trained police and fire, and upgraded roads.
The tax payer bought all that

I don't understand how Planning and Zoning would prohibit a commercial enterprise (the fish shack)on a lot that is zoned commercial. Wouldn't that require some other kind of regulation?

I agree completely. I just can't wait for Missouri to smarten up and become a right to work state. Those states are getting lots of commercial growth.

Missouri IS a right to work state. You can be fired for anything. You people need to look back in history and realize why workers unionized in the first place!!

Nope..wherever or whomever is feeding you this is wrong. You are confusing "At Will" with "Right to Work".

At Will means that at any time an employer may terminate your employment due to economic conditions or for the violation of company policy. Basically, it means that you are not guaranteed a job just by showing up. There are many rules regarding this that protects workers rights.

Right to Work is completely different. It basically means that if the place of employment is a Union represented shop, you cannot force an employee to join that Union AND make it a condition of employment.

These are two very different issues and you are confused and incorrect on the meaning of the two.

Better a job than no job. Maybe if we get competitive in the workplace we would have the workplaces instead of Mexico and China.
