Well I know JND, although not well. He is a nice man and yes the ultimate good old boy. He certainly lost respect with his boastful, inconsiderate remarks of the good people that Mehpisto mentions above - the conservatives who live in Trinity. They will not forget. We in Trinity have very real problem, the budgets are not managed properly and the law enforcment agencys dont have the monies they need. Yes Beemer you hit it right on the head. Good people have to run. People who know how to handle lots of tax dollars and will seek grants being dished out by Texas to small towns who are trying to better themselves. This problem - unlike the politics in Washington - can be fixed by a few good people who wish to help. Or perpetuated by local good old boys who turn like a pack against anything not in their control.
Sounds like the local hospital district board or school board. If you're not inclined to bow and scrape and have a different opinion, you will soon be labled all sorts of nasty names. Only in Trinity,Texas.

Funny...yes! He cracks me up. I was at the VFW for the event, and I didn't want to hear a longwinded speech anymore than anyone else did. They were only scheduled to be there for an hour. Joe Ned had been with him at other speaking events that morning, so I suspect he was just trying to find a funny way to get White to hit the main points, then move on to Groveton for the next event. In his comments, Joe Ned was referring to me just like everyone else there, and I'm not offended. If the shoe fits, wear it. I am laughing about it!

JND can be condescending and self-righteous, but he's right about the bass boats...for all the reasons most of the people who are Republicans around Texas, you'd think a 'boy' with that much education and property and money would have turned Republican a long time ago. The fact that he's remained true to his family's values is, for all intents and purposes, unbelievable. The fact that he hauled his ex-wife and her sons out of the debt collector's bucket wasn't lost on all of us. The fact that she walked away with over $1million and traded up for a new husband is interesting...the geriatric community is awash in family values. So maybe if JND has a few troubles fighting off FOOT IN MOUTH DISEASE...he has his reasons. He was born and raised here and educated in our great state. The fact that he came home and worked for the community instead of some big firm in Dallas or Houston billing fat cats is interesting...was this UT law grad not "smart enough" or did he care too much about the community where he grew up??? You all know he's not getting rich as a judge or a DA. His heart is in his land and livestock and in this county. Many of your comments show that he may have a point about the numbers of under-educated in our midst...and YES! Anything that will keep Bill White on target and from running circles around a good point he's made, I say more power to you! Whomever you may be!! Even if your name is Joe Ned.(Why else would we be having this conversation?)

Personally, I like ol' J.N.D.
I used to love ol' Joe Chandler.
He took care of the "Folks".
But even with the best of intentions, corruption is corruption. The true conservatives play fair and clean. That's why they are feared and hated around these parts. Lots of folks like it just fine the way it is.
yes they did take care of "the Folks" and look what it has cost this county.

You don't have a clue. His ex-wife was class personified and deserved much, much better than she got.

Thanks- it's obvious some of these people haven't lived here long enough to know much. And if they have to ask why he came back to his home town - they've never seen him in court. Must not know about all the farm subsidies he gets either. And if they do the research, they will find all the unregistered sex offenders on the loose in the county because he won't prosecute. Wake up - he just gave a guy who murdered his mother - 15 years. Anything to keep from going to trial!

Amen. And bailing them out financially many years ago didn't give him the right to be dippin' his wick wherever he wanted. The divorce crushed her. She is am amazing woman and a class act. She deserves the same kind of man. If her new hubby is half as great as she is, then God bless him. After what she went through with JND she deserves the best this time around.
And as far as his remarks in the newspaper, I have lived in this county for 25 years and I can say that a large portion of our population is under-educated and at or below the poverty level. Look at it this way...would he have EVER made it in politics with any other bunch of people??? lol Fat chance. Even going out to the small rural communities such as Nigton, etc.(yes, he did that!)and handing out commodities such as cheese, etc. wouldn't get him elected in a better-educated and a more suburban area. That's how he won the last election here.

Too bad, one more problem for Trinity County to try and overcome. Alot of citizens nation wide are saying to vote the good ol boys out of office. We should do the same in Trinity County, but we all know it will never happen. So many people around here are so far up the politicians butts you can only see their shoes. I don't know this for a fact, but look around, what do all of you dropouts think? I think I will ride my lawnmower to the lake and go fishing in my boat.

We shall overcome someday, I hope it's sooner than later. Wake up people, time marches on.

Interesting post.....are you saying it begins at home? My God, imagine actually standing up for what you believe in and having direct consequences!
It's so much more fun to tackle the big monster that has little effect on your daily lives.
Why would we want things to change...that directly affect us?

We don't!

Oh MFC, I hope people dont all feel that way. Some of us do want to change things in Trinity for the better. The only way to make a change is to stand up for what is right and everyone do their part. Dont be complacent, but be willing to accept change! It first starts with me for if not me, who? and if not now, when? and if not here, where?

If it had not been for all the country bumpkins Joe Ned would of been voted out long ago . Everyone that ever voted for him should bend over & he needs to kiss their a--. and give them a big thank you for not knowing better. What an isult to the pepole that supported that bag of hot air. I never voted for him or liked him. Thank God I was not raised here.and never needed a favor from him. I know him well. Just my OPINION he's a jerk.

As to the comments about bailing his ex out of debt... The only reason that it wasn't "lost" on anybody was that JND bragged about it (loudly) when he did it.
He's not a terrible guy, but he's not Saint Joe Ned either.
