Roundabout Construction has Trinity Residents Concerned

Full story: Fox 8 WGHP

The NCDOT is closing a stretch of Finch Farm Road in Trinity Thursday to begin construction on two roundabouts, but residents along the work area think the city should have explored other traffic options.

where does one get a live update on property values due to such things as roundabout construction?....nonsense. as for it's being a waste of money...isn't that a given these days with government?

Well, first of all, the city has nothing to do with the round-abouts. NC-DOT is the group building them. They came to the City meetings to ask for a nod of approval, but said this was already a done deal whether Trinity Council said yes or no. Trinity isn't paying for anything, its all done by State funds. Secondly, NC-DOT engineers are the ones that did the traffic analysis and they felt that round abouts were the best option. Should we listen to a group of engineers or people with no civil engineering background at all?

You know, roundabouts are about the most idiotic idea any person has ever come up with! Don't you feel like you're taking your life into your own hands any time you conjure up the nerve to jump into one? I bet the "injineer" was a yankee!

did you just call someone a yankee, RDOG???? You do realize the war has ended and had ended before you were even born?
Also, regardless of where the engineer resides, unless you've done the work required to be an engineer perhaps you should think twice about belittling anyone in that profession.

As long as it makes the commute in that area safer for anyone traveling it then it really doesn't matter if they put in aroundabout, another lane or a stop light. Whether or not it is a yankee or redneck driving the route, the safety is the main objective.

I am extremely happy for this project and in fact am one of the concerned citizens who contacted the D.O.T. prior to Whertmore's opening. There have been several wrecks in those two areas, including multiple fatalities, within the last few years BEFORE Wheatmore was even built. Now you add an influx of school traffic and inexperienced drivers into the mix........ If this saves just one life then the 8 weeks of aggravation and the temporary devaluation of the gentleman's property was well worth it. I have chosen an alternate route to work for 8 short weeks to make sure that as many as possible are kept safe.

As far as the round abouts being "idiotic". Do your research. These are very commonly used in Eurpoean cities, especially where there is a large volume of traffic, and studies have shown that drivers are much more aware of their surroundings and are driving much more safely than they do using stoplights.

I think that some of the comments on here are from a bunch of really ignorant people. I live in the district, not in steeplegate or a double-wide. If you are not going to dicuss the issue at hand, put your useless comments somewhere else...like facebook.

Why'd they have to interview the most ignorant person they could find.

The guy wants ANOTHER LANE versus a roundabout!? Maybe b/c he thinks they're going to pay him more for taking property with another lane.

Anyone who is educated even a little bit understands that roundabouts are a LOT better than traffic lights. And I don't even want to talk about another lane on Finch Farm.

People already use it as a drag strip. I cannot imagine if there were more lanes.

If a very simple rounabout scares you, do us all a favor and stay off of the road. All that they require to use is common sense. Just a tiny bit will do.

i've seen these round abouts in action,at best they back up traffic that is approaching the round about even though no one is trying to enter the round about from any other direction. The new round about between bethania and rural hall was definately a waste of taxpayer money.People just need to be a little more curtious when driving instead of stepping on the gas when they see someone trying to enter the road in the same direction that there traveling.... ALSO THEY NEED TO MAKE THE FINE FOR LITTERING AN AUTOMATIC 6 MONTHS LOSS OF LICENSE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR 1 YEAR.. I AM DISGUSTED WITH SEEING PEOPLE THROW OUT THERE FAST FOOD BAGS FULLY LOADED WITH GARBAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY AS IF THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO DISPOSE IT ANY WAY THEY THINK IS FIT!!!

You don't leave on this road for one thing so you have no clue how this will affect residents. I know that they are putting these in the middle of curve where the speed limit goes from 45 to 55. That is a mess. Worry about Greensboro and don't put your two cents in where you don't know anything

How do you know I dont live in Trinity? People in Trinity do happen to work and do things in other places than Trinity. I know the area very well. I also know traffic analysis very well. The impact points for accidents in a roundabout are dramatically reduced when you compare them to a standard 4 way stop light intersection. Also, you tell me what you would rather do: Sit at a stop light for 3 minutes idling while no traffic is coming from any direction or slow down to 15 miles per hour, make a simple yield to traffic and be on your way without ever stopping? There are more ways to have an intersection other than just a 4 way stop light.

This is about the biggest waste of money there is! A stop light and a speed reduction would have been better. I would gladly wait for the light, especially if it meant saving a life. These two sections are dangerous, the roundabout will not be any safer. It has inconvenienced a lot of people, who are currently unemployed. They didn't ask us if it was okay, the detour signs are not helpful. Not everyone watches the news 24/7, I personally did not know they were doing this. I also did not know the traffic to local homeowners would not be allowed during the time the workers were not there. Everyone who has went through the barricades is being told we are not allowed through there. I wish the state or county would have to reimburse us for our time and money lost. Local traffic should be allowed no matter what. The economy is so bad right now, people shouldn't have to worry with this inconvenience. I was recently stopped by a state trooper for going through the area and he told me if the signs were up we were not allowed to go through there.
