Full story: Fox 8 WGHP

A High Point man recently surprised his neighbors with an insulated dog house he'd built for their 2-year-old German Shepherd.

Good job neighbor but why didn't the dog already have a house and he was in fenced in yard, why was he on a chain? Strap the owner outside when it's 15 degrees and see that works.

Gee, a satellite dish on the side of the house and they were going to "wait till Christmas" to get the dog a house? Typical screwed up priorities.
I commend the neighbor for doing this. He did it for the dog, not the so called owners.
Most people would be embarrased if a story like this aired about them but, not this woman apparently.

I think the main problem previous posters have is the fact that this dog is 2 years old, and should have already had a house. It is actually against the law to not provide shelter from the elements for an outside dog. God bless the neighbor, and if you read the article, it is apparent he did this for the dog, not the neighbors.

I do not agree with keeping outside dogs period, but if he has a fence, and "keeps getting out", they should fix the fence. Life with a chain around your neck must really suck.:( Dogs are pack animals, and they consider their humans to be part of their pack...which means living outside alienates them from their pack. Just something to think about.

God Bless Mr Close for caring and building this house for the dog.
I love animals and anyone who does things for them.

Very cool and humane thing that Mr.Close did, the owners of the dog really should have already had that arrangement made long before now, if he is a outside dog he needed a house to protect him from the rain and other elements as well from day one. It is a really neat design too. I wish I had a neighbor that would build me a doghouse like that so when the wife gets on the warpath I would have something that nice to go hideout in.....all it needs is a TV and cable and it would be perfect.

Apparantly those of you with high opinions of yourself, have never lived on a farm, and appreciate the dog for being a DOG! It is a pet, not a person, and built to live in and outdoors. The dog is well taken care of and loved, with shelter and food provided for him. Who are you to judge anyone without knowing the whole story. You have manipulated a story of "goodwill" during the holidy season, and turned it into an opportunity to try to make others look bad in attempts to feel better about yourself. POOO on you, losers!

All the Haters please Shut up! This was suppose to be a good thing showing how there are still people in the world that care about others, but for this to be turned into what the owners are doing wrong, is just STUPID. Stop hating and get a life! I wish there were more neighbors like this world and alot less of some of the people that have commented on this story.

Grandma and Grandpas dog was loose and would get under the porch to get out of the rain and hot sun! This dog was tied so he could do that plus these folks didn't even have a place for him to get into, I imagine that is why the neighbor built the dog house in the first place because he felt sorry for him. I still say the owners should have provided shelter for the dog first.

Well, as a passerby, and not someone who lives there. I saw the dog outside, in the rain, snow and sleet. No food, no water. I almost called animal control several times but i'm too close to the situation. This dog had been expected to live in horrible conditions, it might as well have been a wild dog living in the wilderness. The dog kennel is no bigger than the dog and is the same kennel its had since it was a puppy. oh yeah, its never in there! Bottom line is, if you dont want a dog, give it to someone who does. They have feelings too!

Great idea. But check this out and see what the volunteers at Project BARK have been doing for the past two years. They have placed over 640 FREE dog houses in low income neighborhoods in Greensboro and High Point. Check them out at www.projectbark.org .
