I've known Colton's mom since I was a child. Yes, he was a troubled boy, but he absolutely had a heart of gold. When I was caring for my grandparents he never failed to stop and mow the grass, trim the shrubs, rake leaves; anything that he saw that needed to be done,Colton just did it because it needed to be done. I didn't even have to ask, he just came over and did it. All he ever wanted was to be recognized, to be loved... to matter to someone. Colton, you most definitely mattered. Especially to the mother and her children whose lives you defended. Rest in peace.

But in the end if it was a home invasion and he stepped in front of kids to protect them then maybe he had some good in him..but this neighborhood people dont do home invasions for possessions other than drugs..He was a known gang member and drug dealer..kudos for taking up for kids but he should have changed his life the last 10 times he was in jail..
I'd be curious who these home invaders were and what they wanted. Why would a child be up at midnight?

<quoted text>Colton may not have been perfect, but he gave up his life to protect someone else's. All you people leaving these negative comments are going to feel really stupid when you find out the details. My heart goes out to his mom and sisters!
I don't mind feeling stupid if the truth comes out in the end, so send some details, as if they aren't known already by a few.

Was this boy shot in the house or the yard? I know someone is saying home invasion, but how did they get in with adults in the house awake. Fox 8 does not say it was a home invasion.

What does this record say about an 18 year old boy. Nothing but trouble.

thugs are thugs and in todays world they are under the impression that whats theirs is theirs and whats yours is theirs as well...the THUG wanted money and anything else along with it out of the house and when the mother of the children simply said we dont have any money he said something to the effect of give it to me or i will shoot you and your kids, thats when Colton stepped in between and took the bullet....so shut your uneducated mouth and have some respect!!! the nerve of people! grow up and keep your opinions to yourself, you know nothing! he was like family to me. people really need to watch what they say, whats done is done, let it rest, this is a time of mourning, not point fingers and running people into the ground!!!!

This record does not define someone who only wanted to be loved and recognized.

It wasn't a child. It was an adult felon that chose the thug life that was killed.

Definitely no hero, there is a reason the gun was there. His record shows that he has done many wrong.
