N.J. Legislature OKs bill opening birth records of adopted adults
Adopted adults will be able to get a copy of their birth certificate with the names of their biological parents under a bill that won final legislative passage Monday, 31 years after advocates began waging what they have called a civil rights battle to learn their identities.

They perhaps should show more understanding as to what this does to the parents who raised these children and to the damage this does to adoption.
Knowing that your children may someday bring strangers into the picture after the hard work of child rearing is complete...throws an uncertaintly into the mix that will make people think twice about raising children who they would love as their own. This hurts the instition of adoption.
This is somewhat selfish. Like so much else about our culture.

Being adopted I really appreciate this bill and have for awhile wanted to find out about my biological parents only because I have children of my own that need to know my medical history.
By not means does this take away from the fact that I have 2 wonderful parents that loved me and raised me well. Its the fact that I need to know things about myself. There are things I would like to learn about myself that have been a mystery.
