I have heard both good and bad things about leisure lake I have lived in Trenton Missouri my whole life. I have never lived at leisure lake but I have visited several times, went fishing and swam in the lake it has turquoise colored water in the summer time a dock you can swim to out in the water. The trees are beautiful in the fall. it seems like a laid back peaceful place and I have always wanted to purchase property there but haven't. If you are friendly I am sure you will get along with people, maybe the only thing you will have a problem with is loose dogs, have heard complaints about that. Other than that i dont know. I thunk it would be a very nice place to live. I didn't catch a thing either when I went fishing... But If you want to fish you May have to river cat at the Thompson river bridge which isn't too far away. State park isn't far either.

We have had a house on leisure for three years now and love it. It is quite surroundings lovely people. Haven't met the child abusers yet. Druggies either but that might just be who you hang around. People do let their dogs run around...I do also. You don't like it, leave it a special treat. Fishing swimming boating walking socializing pot lucks parades or just sitting on the deck with adult beverages ahhh leisure lake. Come hide with us.

Unfortunately you are going to get mixed reviews. My father lives there year round and winter is there like it is anywhere.... Depends on what your living style is like now if you would want to move there year round. It would be great for someone to move there and open a little Ma and Pa grocery store that doesn't rob people but makes a profit.
You should aske specific things when wanting to know if you should move......
If you drive a nice car and have nice things people will accuse you of being a drug dealer or whatever. there is a bunch of low lifes that live there. and they my friend are the very ones to be concerned about.

all I have heard from friends and family about leisure lake is that the so called COMITTIES cant run the place or keep the upkeep, on it that should be the no. 1 priority. my daughter and I lived there and after she passed away not one bit of compassion was shown. We loved leisure lake it was truly our home. I got involved with people I shouldn't have and I know that now. oh well I am doing ok now my husband and I are back together except for the fact that everyday I have to live with the death of my daughter,

Believe me you would be best off to find another place. Leisure Lake is a joke! At first glance it seems like it would be a good place to own property and it used to be. Any more it's just a "friends club" if you do not fit in to the little group that is running the place, you are nobody! It used to be such a nice place but those days are long gone. There's a select little group that is running the place and they pass policies that are there only to fit their own needs. The politics are ridiculous, and it's more of a PIA than it's worth. My family owned property there for many years, and I've seen things going down hill ever since. There is a lot of favoritism and double standards, although the "powers that be" will deny it. They pass bylaws and policies that certain people can ignore and get away with it while others can't. It's a real shame what has happened to the place in recent years. The directors do whatever they want and the common person has no say in matters. Do yourself a big favor and look elsewhere!

Just found this old post when I was looking at leisure lake properties. Would any one care to post a currant opinion? Have winter conditions improved? Any comments would be appreciated.

if I knew back when we bought property at leisure lake what I know now I never would have bought any property at leisure lake. a lot of busy bodies that doesn't have a clue what a good neighbor is. if you have a problem you go see them personally. Then if that don't work you bring in the association in.. Oh well that place will probably be condemned if the right people were called and the right people is going to be contacted to see if we can't get leisure lake homes and lots wiped off the map. I heard its a natural lake which is very interesting but as for the homes and lots most of them really do need to be condemned.

I am active duty military and I own 2 lots and one house there. I love it down there. I have no idea what the other's are posting about "politics" down there...the HOA barely makes a whisper with telling you what to do or not to do. I have lived in HOA's that tell you what color flowers you can plant. These people that are posting negative things are retarded. And no, I'm not selling my place, I just fixed it up and I'm keeping it because I like it there so much. The people are friendly and taking care of my place while I am deployed to Afghanistan, the fishing is great, the water is great for an afternoon dip. As for the winter situation, I can't speak to it, but they tell me they got a lot of snow this year, and last time I came down in the winter, its tough to get around if you don't have a 4x4.

Well you simply haven't been there long enough to know what goes on behind the scenes. Those posting negative comments or talking about politics are speaking from many years of experience. I wouldn't be so rude to call you retarded, I would simply say you're uniformed or unaware because you haven't been there long enough to know.

Leisure Lake is a great peaceful place to live. I currently live here and while there are some not so nice properties here there are also some very nice houses here as well. I find leisure to be very peaceful and a great place to live.

i have lived at the lake for 4 years now. there is some dope and some drinking that goes on. but if you open your eyes there is dope and drinking going on all around you no matter where you are.
nobody bothers me, out here I am left alone.
there are some trashy dumps around but the lake association is trying to get them cleaned up.
the lake has came a long way in 10 years and if they keep going like they are it will only get better.
you make it what you want it, and piss on every one else!!!!!

With rattle snakes from the nearby rock quarry bigger around than your wrist.
The David Peterie property was at one time the best home on the shore line.

I bought a few lots there in 2013. I love the place personally. It's not fancy by any means but everyone I've met has been super friendly.
As for all the negative comments, I really can't say how the place was before I got my place. I'm sure there are a few meth heads there but they're everywhere. I can say that I haven't had anything missing or any other problems for that matter.
The lake is clean, you can see your toes when you're chest deep. The fishing is decent. You definitely want a boat to get the best fishing though.
The swimming area is nothing fancy but it's clean.
They say there are copperheads out there, I'm sure there are it's in the country after all, but I haven't seen anything but a black snake or two.
The roads in the winter do get slick. They maintain them but they're gravel roads, there's only so much you can do.
The trash pickup is included in your dues which are pretty reasonable.
All in all it's a nice little place and you can get property there on the cheap.

How cheap is cheap? How much are those reasonable dues?

You can get lots for a couple hundred bucks or at the tax sale for less than that. Houses for way less than you would pay in Trenton or Chillicothe.
I can't remember the exact number but my dues are right around $300 for four lots.
