As a parent of a future Bulldog, I'm very concerned Triad will win another MVC Championship, while the Bulldogs will have another dismal season. I'm afraid the Bulldogs won't finish better than 0-9

Should I be?

Yes, you should be! It is the same coach as last year. A couple of the boys have quit the team recently because he is so crazy. They have been practicing all summer and they have a 7 on 7 tonight when the temp is going to be 107 degrees...REALLY?!!!!! Is this really necessary when we are having record breaking temps to play in this heat?! I just hope and pray all the boys will be ok! Also, one of the boys (his name was in the police blotter last week) that was breaking into unlocked cars, etc. in Highland a couple of weeks ago, is still ALLOWED to be playing with the team!!!

You should not be concerned. Triad is by far the largest school in the conference. 20% larger than Highland or Jerseyville (who are the next largest), 50% larger than Civic Memorial and Mascoutah. They should win the MVC every year...

You should send you kid to Triad, they need more concerned parents like you.

Im confused, "Also concerned". You state that "Concerned Parent" should be concerned that the Bulldogs wil have another 0-9 season, but then call the coach "crazy" for having the boys practice all summer, which he is doing so they can have a better season? So, you think they should just be good without working hard for it? Parents like you are the reason kids are quitting, because you tell them they shouldn't have to work hard for success. "Umpire" is right, Triad should win conference every year because that school is larger than any in the conference by far (they too practice all summer and participate in 7 on 7 competitions). The are also 5A.
I hope you have the guts to tell your son's coach to his face that you are bashing him behind his back, but I doubt you do as that's the only reason people like you flock to sites like this... to complain about what you don't even know about and look ignorant without anyone having to know who you are.
"Concerned parent" I recommend that you get your information from a legitimate source: parents who currently have sons on the team, this coach's players or former players, or (gasp!) the coach himself, rather than asking a question on a site like this where you'll end up with false information from people like "Also concerned" and make yourself look as ignorant as them.

Stop looking foolish people, this is obviously a Triad student stirring things up. He did a good job.

The prior posts hit the nail on the head regarding Triad's size v. the rest of the conference. A Highlander would be embarassed to dominate a conference containing schools like Staunton, Lebanon, Greeneville, etc. It's about the same thing as Triad dominating the MVC. Ironically, the only sport they dominate is football. They've been playing in basketball tournaments for years now against schools with enrollments in the 200's...and they aren't even winning those tournaments.

Forgot the main point...sorry. Highland football will be just fine. Last year was the first year for the new coach. He needs to establish his system and phylosophy. Can't win by simply putting in a new coach with the same system...that new coach has to have a bit of time to arrange things the way he wants and needs. One new thing will be work ethic and practice...which any successful program has to have. The cupcakes are not going to make it in this program, which is good because a team of cupcakes and pretty boys do not win football games. This coach was very successful as a player and has coached successfully at many levels prior to coming back to HHS. I often hear Highlanders ask, "why is Mater Dei so good as sports?" Well, their programs require kids to put in the time and effort and require parents and community to be supportive instead of negative. By the way, this new coach was the succussful OC at MD as well. Go Dogs!

It's not just football ,they are very strong in track. They also have a 12-peat in boys tennis.

Work ethic has been a problem for Highland Bulldog football and is being addressed. Other teams such as Mater dei and Triad have maintained tradition and pride. We lost that in Highland because
of parents babying their kids and telling them they owed something their not. Things take hard work and pride. The current staff will instill that, but it is up to the kids to accept the knowledge they are given and have some pride and work hard. We have beaten the big schools before why not now. ATTITUDE!!!!!!

I would like to say their are kids that have been working hard and not all parents have babied their kids but as a whole we gotten soft and that sucks. The community involvement stinks as well. I miss that identity. I hope it will return. It also falls on alumni involvement. More former Atheletes such as Sean Voegele, Nick Sutton, Kane Freeman that are involved need to be involved. It would help if the Bill Greenwalds, Greg Weinachts, etc were more involved. I know family life for guys is top priority. But I bet if guys like that were asked the would help when they could to build that pride back up.

Lets see, hmmm. Community? No, alumni players are NOT the issue. Greenwald gave all he had to that program. The program did not make him who he was. That whole team made the program what it became. Bill has come back when he is asked to. Most people move on with their life as he has done. He keeps to himself, stays out of trouble and is a devoted family man. He owes that program NOTHING. And by the way, I was there, side by side with him for 4 years. We had no "alumni" showing us a damned thing. We were devoted, our PARENTS supported our work ethic and then the community BOOSTED us as they saw us win.(everybody loves a winner) The program must show the community a reason to get behind the football program. They are entitled to NOTHING until they earn it. So dont blame alumni nor mention an alumni name and volunteer their time for anything regarding this crap. tell the boys to work out, run, sweat and eat and breathe football til they stink like an old gym. Then perhaps the community will have a reason to come out and see some "winners"...

Sorry I wasnt volunteering anyone. It just seems that the tradition those guys built has went by the wayside. I was not saying anyone is supposed to help but it would be greatfor the tradtion to return. Being that u did play w/ Bill, u should understand that the most. I played in the program myself. I thought what I made was a positive comment not meant as disrespect to anyone.

After last night maybe you should be more concerned about Triad. They may choke like they did in baseball last spring!!!!

Yes, you should be. Du Quoin High School has an enrollment of only 450 students while Highland High School has an enrollment of over 1,100 students and the Bulldogs managed to beat Du Quoin by only 3 points!

ROFLMAO!!
