puhlease.....what a waste of money those signs are

Don't let your feelings towards Obama cloud your thinking. Nothing wrong with a sign that lets people know where the money is coming from. Lots of states already used these types of signs when govt funds were being used in highway construction-no big deal. Plus, for me personally, I like to know that the money is coming from the Feds, and not PA. PA is limiting their money put into Rt. 422 and want to make it a toll road. Funny how they take federal money now, and then in the future will make it a pay/toll road.
so they need to spend $1,000 per sign to make you feel better?....what a waste!
are we really complaining about the costs of signs on this board?
They just finished Rt202!...this upgrade has beenin the planning stages longer than Obama has been in office. Geeesh! Use your heads before speaking!
How about you use your head and understand the topic! I think the work being done on 422 is needed and should be done. Wasting money on stupid signs is just politics.
No matter how small, money spent on $1,000 signs is just waste. All this waste adds up and could go to much better use. |
The signs are to help the busy people get off a jammed highway LONG before the problem. The jammed highway problem is only going to get worse.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Run for office!:) See if you could stop the $1000 signs..I doubt it... |

You really should think before you type. There are already signs that say construction ahead. The article is about $1,000 signs that were created to explain how the stimulus package paid for the construction. They are placed in the middle of the construction zone. They are not for warning purposes! As I said before, political waste.
Speaking of running for office... I've started looking at this guy (www.welchforpa.com ). Maybe someone who has run a business before can help stop all this political waste. We have to start somewhere. |

Basic question- How do we know how much the sign/signs cost? Is this a figure obtained from a reliable source, or an estimate based on your personal knowledge?

This discussion came from the article posted above. The article mentions a cost of $1,000 or more per sign and the following is a quote from a different article:
"PennDOT so far has spent about $60,000 of the U.S. government’s recovery cash, or about $2,000 per highway, to post signs on 30 road repair and construction projects across the Commonwealth that are being paid for by money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, The (Allentown PA) Morning Call newspaper reported Friday (July 17, 2009). Nationwide, however, millions of dollars are being spent to produce those same signs." I think the stimulus is a good thing and an important part of a recovery plan from this recession. My problem is government waste. We have leaders from both sides that care more about making themselves look good or the other side look bad then trying to fix things. I just wish we had Term Limits! |
Oh, I'm with you on term limits- for sure. They all stay in office WAY too long and corruption obviously follows. The other problem is, however, that even if we have term limits, they all usually make so many deals/friends while in office, that they then go to work as either a member of some companies board of directors or some high paying consultant job. They're all crooked, to various degrees. It's a shame, but true.

so some smart shuck here thinks a few million on road repair is somewhat diminished because the govt wants us to be transparent so they see stimulus being well spent?
wouuld you rather see no bid contracts been given to defence companies to hire $1,000 a day security instead of our own military? as long as we don't know if money is being misspent we are happier than if we know if money is being spent well. go figure!!! if you haven't noticed, more gas money is spent on traffic on 422 than $1,000 a day. BEFORE ANY LOCAL TOWNSHIP GRANTS PERMITS FOR NEW CONTRUCTION PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE HIGHWAYS ARE FIXED. |

Heads-up 422 commuters:
"Crews are expected to begin saw-cutting areas of old concrete Monday (Aug. 10) in the roadbed. Traffic then will be reduced from two lanes to one from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then from 7 p.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 11). After Monday, westbound 422 will be restricted to one lane weekdays from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m. the next afternoon." Can't wait. |

WOW! The road went from 2 lanes to.. well.. 2 lanes!! Great job guys. Now we have 2 lanes instead of 2 lanes & it only took 4 months of suicidal traffic. Now I dont have to sit in traffic because nothing changed. Looks awesome too. It was tan concrete & now its black. Now when I am sitting there in traffic at least my car will look cooler. Blacktop on black tires looks better. In the summer it will only make the road about 10 or 20 degrees warmer which is nice when its 90 degrees out. Thanks again. I feel better that half my check goes to this.

Yea, all they are doing is "Painting" Clearly you have no clue what they are doing. They are adding 4-8" of new Asphalt (VERY QUIET ASPHALT), and smoothing out the road. Replacing the bad concrete, and fixing things that are wrong and have been wrong with the road since the day it opened. Adding another lane will not fix things between these two exits, the 363/29 interchange and bridge complex needs to be blown up and rebuilt, 363 needs to connect directly with 29 again. that will relieve 75% of morning traffic.
Please, if your going to comment here, don't embarrass yourself... Painting the road black, that is great! |
