Fitchburg has downtown dilemma after Johnsonia razed, City Hall damaged

It's been an agonizing sight for some to watch the once regal and historic downtown landmark, formerly the Johnsonia Hotel, be taken down brick by brick after being heavily damaged by fire in June 2011.

CVS is eying the Johnsonian location. It wouldn't surprise me if CVS purchased the land or leased it.

I can see a CVS with apartments above it for rent or sale.

I don't believe that it will remain undeveloped for long. If well thought out this location could give a boost to Main street.

Whatever is built there we all need to work on employing citizens of Fitchburg.

I was in Boston yesterday. At Broadway station there is a new multifloored condo complex going up. At quiting time there were 10 Guatamaleans coming out the gate. They waited for their transportation to arrive and piled in the SUV.

We all must support laws to be passed that disallows these developers from hirering outside of Americans. These guys take their paychecks and send them to Guatamala via western union(check the numbers). Now if these wer Americans they would be taking their checks and spending them 100% back into circulation amoung many small business and or services needed.

The construction industry has been taken over by Investors who hire illegals over Americans. These developers are no longer carpenters climbing through the field as they are now investors.

I fully believe that this is EXACTLY what legislators are for, and that is to pass laws protecting the American worker. These units will sell for $600-$700 thousand dollars for a two bedroom and eat in kitchen.

There isn't a shortage of profit to be shared as is the main and only argument of the Republican wealth mongers.

As it isn't brain surgery what Romney does for a living as much as it is simple math.His Bain Capital approaches a company and states,"if you lay off your 200 employees in America you can in turn hire 170 employees in India for 90% less in wagers and no laws needed to pay into social security ect.

These corporations are not on the verge of collaspse as they are looking to double up on an annual basis.

We need to pass laws directed at thes companies that puts an unmanageble tariff on their imports into America/their homeland. We also need to apply a airwave tariff that makes it nearly impossible for local businesses such as cable companies to hire customer services out of India.

If these laws are passed America will return to prosperity and opportunity again. A place where you could earn a million but not 100 Million a year!

We use to enforce anti trust laws before that is meant to protect the people against the Romneys.

So, what is your comment? I began my comments concerning this location. It brought up a need for job opportunities which directly affects CONSUMER SPENDING into any and all small businesses on MAIN ST, including the Johnsonian location.

It is called a BUSINESS PLAN!!! Who is going to be the target market for a potential business at this site? I say it may be part comercial and part residential. It is called generating more multiple income means on one site.

And who is going to write a business plan on this privately owned plot of land? Are you suggesting the city take it by emminent domain and develop it? Is there a full moon? Where are these loony comments coming from? If the city was going to do that, it would have been done prior to demolition.
